Macro-level Mistakes

Now, to make things more understandable and comprehensive, I have broken down the common writing mistakes into two sections. Well, you will find it quite easy to read but you have to stick to this article to find out what it has for you.

Let’s start with the macro-level mistakes then.

  •         Do not write Long Introduction

The common mistake every writer makes is writing a long introduction.

I know you want to attain the reader’s attention through the comprehensive and catchy intro but remember, readers, want to get to the point immediately. It's like they can stop reading your article if your introduction is too boring or long. They lose their interest, folks.

  •         Start without a Hook

The simple question is, why should your readers read your essay?

Maybe because it has some useful information that you have put together. But what if you have important information but you are putting it in the wrong way?

The major mistake is that you start your essay explaining simple terms which readers do not find interesting. Many readers do not know the concept of hook and this is how your readers leave your article.

So, always start with some quotation, famous line of text, some idiom or phrase which can grab the audience's attention.

  •         Your Explanation Lacks Strong Evidence

What if I ask you to read a simple statement that lacks strong evidence?

Of course, you will get confused and you can call this information “handwavy” and it is the biggest mistake ever that can put your whole effort at stake.

You need to put strong evidence to back up your claim. For example, if you are saying, “World is getting dangerous day by day”, you need to explain with facts why you gave this generalized statement. To write my essayI used to first look at the strong evidence and facts that can help me build my claim, and only then, I can make my writing convincing. So, you have to do this too for readers.

  •         The conclusion doesn’t Look like a Conclusion

We do not write a convincing conclusion because either, we run out of time or words and it is one of the major mistakes we make in writing.

Conclusions tie up the whole argument to make readers satisfied with the result of the whole writing piece. You can not just abruptly end the essay and your readers do not find any opportunity to engage with the thoughtful question that you can add at the end of the conclusion.

So, always try to give your full time and attention to the conclusion writing.

Macro-level Mistakes

Micro-level mistakes mostly happen due to the incurrent grammar and sentence structure and there are the most common writing mistakes that you can make at any level.

Here is a list of small mistakes so you can get a better idea of what I am talking about.

  •         Subject-Verb disagreement

This mistake mostly happens when subject and verbs disagree in numbers such as if the subject is singular then the verb is plural. It happens when you face some confusion regarding indefinite pronouns and the noun’s numbers. So, to avoid this make sure that you know about the tenses and how they can be used.

  •         Sentence Fragment

Sentence fragments are broken or improper sentences which give a sense of fragment and broken tenses and they are also disconnected from the main clause. The easy way to remove sentence fragments is to add connecting words or right punctuations.

  •         Use of First-Person Narration

When you are doing academic writing, you are not allowed to use first-person narration. It comes in informal writing or expression and generally, students are instructed to avoid it. Such as, you can not write “I” or “We” in the essay unless it is narrative and some kind of reflection.

These writing mistakes are not very easy to overcome because writing needs a lot of attention and concentration and you need to do writing exercises to avoid it. However, proofreading your essay and working on the draft can help you a lot and for this, you can take help from the online essay writing service. They can proofread your work and point out the writing mistake for you.

So, what are you waiting for? Understand these common writing mistakes and start your practice to overcome them in your writing.
