Obi pays Wike a visit in Rivers amid defection rumors.

Obi's visit comes at a time when rumors are circulating that Wike may leave the PDP.

The timing of Obi's visit coincides with rumors that Wike may leave the People's Democratic Party in the wake of the fallout from the party's presidential primary and the failure of the party's presidential standard-bearer, Atiku Abubakar, to select the Rivers governor as his running mate for the 2023 general elections.
Atiku had also established a reconciliation committee with the intention of reaching out to Wike in an effort to appease him and to request his assistance for the party's efforts to win power away from the All Progressives Congress at the central level.

Wike's media adviser, Kelvin Ebiri, stated to our correspondent that the meeting was considered to be "private" after being approached.

Because he did not answer any of the calls that were sent to him, it was unable to get a hold of one of the media aides working for the LP presidential candidate in order to get his thoughts.

Our correspondent was informed by a source, however, that Obi may be capitalizing on the consequences in order to attract Wike to his party and request his support in his bid to succeed President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rted).

You may remember that, while addressing at the PDP convention, Wike stated that he will support whoever emerges and that he will remain in the Party.
