According to Professor Pat Utomi, the chairperson of the National Consultative Front, the halting of the voter enrollment process could end in the disenfranchisement of several Nigerians (NCF).
He asked that voter registration be kept going at least through the end of October by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
At a news conference held in Lagos, Professor Utomi remarked, "We do not feel it is appropriate to continue disenfranchising Nigerians with this hurry to shut off enrollment.
"According to the law, Nigerians may register up to November. At the very least, registration should be allowed to continue through October 31.
"We receive calls from diaspora residents who are quite concerned about it and seeking to petition the US government and the UN, claiming that the Nigerian government is trying to disenfranchise Nigerians through INEC. Therefore, we ask INEC to spare itself the embarrassment.
Additionally, Professor Utomi requested that INEC mandate that contestants take part in public debates.
When it comes to the presidential, governorship, and National Assembly races in particular, he stated, "We would also like to make INEC demand that anyone who cannot engage in a debate must be excluded from that election."
We ought to hold more open debates, not just one or two.
A phony website for Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) had been condemned by INEC in the interim.
After the commission nationwide suspended voter registration, this notice was made.
The false website claimed that people registering online was permitted by the Federal Government in order to avoid crowds.
Festus Okoye, the commission's National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, released a statement in which he cautioned Nigerians from succumbing for the con artists.
