10th NASS: Tinubu, APC To Reconsider Zoning

The All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership and President-elect Bola Tinubu are reportedly considering a review of the allocation arrangements for the 10th National Assembly leadership, according to new information.

New findings indicate that the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership and President-elect, Bola Tinubu are contemplating a review of the zoning arrangements for the 10th National Assembly leadership. This follows a meeting Tinubu had with several aspirants after he returned from France.

Tinubumet separately with aspirants, including the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Idris Wase, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and Senator Sani Musa, among others.

According to sources who spoke with This Day, Wase, a candidate for speaker of the House of Representatives, was the first to meet with Tinubu and departed abruptly after their conversation.

According to inside sources, the tension between Tinubu and Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje over Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso's Paris visit may have revealed ulterior motives behind the advice given to the president-elect by some northern governors.

A source described the advice, notably regarding National Assembly leadership positions, as “selfish and not the true reflection of the views of the majority.”

Currently, the North-West has two positions for presiding officers, while the South-south and South-east each have one, leaving the North-Central geopolitical region without any positions.

According to reports, this has prompted confusion within the party. In spite of this, a second source has confirmed that Tinubu and Kwankwaso's meeting in France has revealed plans to revisit the zoning arrangements.

Audio Leak Provokes Tension

According to an intercepted phone conversation between Ganduje and Ibrahim Masari, the former vice presidential candidate of the APC, Tinubu decided to base the zoning arrangements on the performances of each geopolitical zone in the previous election.
Tinubu did not appreciate Ganduje's comments in the disclosed conversation that he should have been present at the meeting between Tinubu and Kwankwaso.
According to a second source, Tinubu emphasized that the North Central should not be excluded from the zoning plans.
He was quoted as saying, "The decision to zone the offices will be reviewed to ensure a balance." The speakership will likely be located in the North West because it is a substantive No. 4 office, which is higher in the hierarchy than the Deputy Senate President.
