Paul Scholes predicts Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo

In Manchester United's game against FC Sheriff on Thursday night in the Europa League, Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first goal of the year to get the Red Devils off to a winning start.

Paul Scholes has speculated that Cristiano Ronaldo will soon be reinstated into the starting lineup for Manchester United matches in the Premier League.

As a result of an injury to Marcus Rashford, Erik ten Hag gave Ronaldo the nod to start the game for a second consecutive match. The 37-year-old veteran responded positively to the confidence shown in him by his manager by scoring his first goal of the season from the penalty spot.

Ronaldo calmly stepped up to the penalty spot to score his first goal of the season after a foul was committed on Diogo Dalot inside the box. After Jadon Sancho had given Ten Hag's side the lead earlier in the game, it was United's second goal of the match against FC Sheriff.

Prior to the start of the match, those working in the BT Sport studio were debating the topic of whether or not Ronaldo should now be considered a "Europa League player." This is the first season that the forward has started more than three games, but both of those starts have come in the European competition.

Despite this, Scholes was quick to point out that the Portuguese star is far from being nothing more than that. The 47-year-old provided the following explanation: "We can't call him a Europa League player, we just can't." "It goes without saying that he is a player in the Champions League. Because he plays for a club that can only compete in the Europa League for the time being, he will have to make do with that. It provides him with the opportunity to score goals on those Thursday nights, if he is playing, and earn a spot in the team for the Premier League games, which is where I'm sure he'll want to be playing and where I'm sure he'll work his way in there. If he plays on those Thursday nights, he will have this opportunity."
