Raphael Varane good, Fred bad vs Newcastle United.

In their first Premier League match at Old Trafford in six weeks, Manchester United drew with Newcastle. Here is how the players at Old Trafford judged their performance in the match.

Ronaldo and teammates were frustrated

David de Gea

On his 500th appearance, he illustrated why it would be difficult for him to make it to 600 by distributing his points in an unsatisfactory manner. The crowd was annoyed by it. 5

Diogo Dalot

lagging behind the pack and probably overworked due to the fact that he is the only outfielder who has started every game. A slight advancement was made in the second half. 6

Raphael Varane

One of the few United players who appeared bothered by Newcastle running roughshod over them, along with a few others. Again did a good job of leading the backline. 7

Lisandro Martinez

In contrast to the majority of his colleagues, he competed with consistency and urgency throughout the first half; nonetheless, his probing passing was neutralized. 6

Luke Shaw

Did not lack in effort, but was unable to recover from being caught on his heels too frequently, and he has not yet had an impact in the final third. 5

casemiro

Did not avoid contact with opposing players but lagged behind in the first half and was eventually penalized for a too aggressive challenge. Should have provided Marcus Rashford with an assist with a cross but did not. 6

Fred

Fred may have been substituted at halftime in the event that United had an experienced midfielder available off the bench. The second half was a significant improvement over the first. 4

Antony

At times, one-dimensional, but gave some momentum during United's periods of possession as they were struggling to maintain control. When competing against Dan Burn, did not have the pace to burn. 5

Bruno Fernandes

He was not beholden to the attackers nor the midfielders, and in order to explain his position, he did not invent anything out of thin air. He was booked, and he did not have his composure. 4

Jadon Sancho

Started off with a lot of energy, but he was not incisive and he didn't have much success against Kieran Trippier. A more natural tumble could have resulted in a penalty, but instead they chose to fall in a dramatic manner. 5

Cristiano Ronaldo

It appears that he dropped too deep and too frequently in order to avoid being called for offside. I had two goals disallowed, one of which may have been questionable. 4

Subs

The man's name is Marcus Rashford.

the logical move to make, but they were unable to get through Newcastle's defense. 5

Manager

A lack of Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay left me with little choice but to go with Fred as my starting quarterback. Had few potential game-changers to draw from, but decided against using a wild card, which resulted in the players falling behind. 5
