Six goals in the second half give way to an exciting conclusion as United's Martial, Rashford, Fernandes, and McTominay score.
After a tedious first half, a frantic second half produced all six goals. Anthony Martial quickly erased Ollie Watkins' first goal, and Marcus Rashford scored after an own goal by Diogo Dalot had placed the visitors back in the front.
Then, in the 78th and 88th minutes, respectively, Bruno Fernandes gave United the lead before Scott McTominay decided to add a fourth in injury time. Both goals were assisted by substitute Alejandro Garnacho, who had just come off the bench.
In their penultimate home game before the World Cup, the outcome saw United take some retribution for their 3-1 Premier League loss at Villa Park on Sunday.
All the two coaches made seven adjustments from the team's performance on Sunday. Harry Maguire was named United's captain, and Martin Dubravka made his goaltending debut. Due to illness, Sunday's captain Cristiano Ronaldo was not present in the lineup.
While having to play as the number 10 with Fernandes moved to the wide position, Donny van de Beek made his third consecutive start. Despite the poor first 45 minutes, however, neither team was able to impose any consistent pressure.
United struggled to stay onside, while Villa seldom ever managed to leave their own half. In the 18th minute, Fernandes put the ball in the back of the net, but Rashford had already made a hasty retreat to meet Fred's through ball.
Until stoppage time, when Fernandes attempted to throw Robin Olsen off guard with a meek free kick from deep, neither team had attempted a shot on goal.

But after the break, the game picked up, with Villa scoring first and Jacob Ramsey continuing his Sunday-style role as a playmaker. After Fred was dispossessed off the ball and United unsuccessfully protested for a handball, Ramsey's delivery pass found Watkins running, who sneaked goalside of the defense and past Dubravka.
Villa continued to celebrate as United responded a few seconds later. After sprinting onto Dalot's long pass to evade the offside trap, Fernandes slid the ball for Martial to convert easily.
Emery adjusted his lineup by making three substitutions, sending on Emi Buendia, Leon Bailey, and Tyrone Mings. It quickly paid off as Bailey assisted Villa in regaining the lead just after the hour mark.
The terrible Dalot mistakenly turned the Jamaican's header back across past Dubravka after Ashley Young's cross placed him at the far post.
Five minutes after Ten Hag's quadruple substitution in response, United was level.
The ball was played out across area for Rashford to pick up after he flicked it on for Christian Eriksen, one of the newcomers, and he managed to keep on his feet while being pressured by Mings before blasting past Olsen.
Old Trafford was even more electrified after the arrival of Garnacho, who ran fearlessly at defenders.
Ahead of clearing Maguire's header from the ensuing corner, Olsen did well to block Fernandes' low shot after the Villa back four had permitted his cross to reach him.
The strain increased as Fernandes blazed a shot wide. In response, Olsen first mishandled a clearance that went straight to Garnacho before spilling a cross. The child squared the ball to Fernandes, who took a touch and fired, deflecting off Mings and going past the goalie.
In injury time, Garnacho again provided the opening with a dipping cross from the left that McTominay strained to knock in at the far post.
