Erik ten Hag updates Christian Eriksen's fitness before Manchester United against Tottenham.

Due to a sickness, Christian Eriksen did not play for Manchester United in their match against Newcastle United, which ended in a scoreless tie.

Eriksen missed Sunday's goalless draw with Newcastle United.

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, has revealed that he is unsure as to whether or not Christian Eriksen will be available for Wednesday night's match against his former team, Tottenham Hotspur, which will take place at Old Trafford.

Illness prevented the Denmark international from playing in Sunday's match against Newcastle United, which ended in a goalless draw. The international player had joined United from Brentford in the summer on a free transfer. It was the first time he had been held out of action for the Reds in the Premier League so far during the current campaign.

Against Newcastle, United's absence of Eriksen, who has been perhaps the team's best player so far this season, was extremely detrimental to their performance. United did not have enough possession in the middle third of the field, particularly in the first half, and they did not move into advanced positions often enough to challenge the goalkeeper for the away team, Nick Pope.

However, Ten Hag said after the game against Newcastle that it was too early to offer a definitive response on Eriksen's prospects of being available for the game against Spurs. Ten Hag was commenting about Eriksen's availability for the game.

According to what Ten Hag shared with Viaplay, "We miss him when he's not available." "However, we have a squad, and 11 more guys are currently on the field. Therefore, we will have to establish a new team, and the players who were on the bench are all very capable of contributing.

"I have no idea [whether he will play against Spurs]. I know you're from Denmark, and I want to know, and I want to communicate that he's played fantastically for us at this moment in time. [Viaplay], I'm talking to you. Within our group, he is someone who makes a significant contribution to what we are right now.

"I don't know if he will be available for Wednesday, but of course I hope he will be," the speaker said.

Ten Hag revealed that Eriksen was battling a sickness prior to the start of the match; however, he did not disclose the precise ailment that the midfielder was suffering from. He also disclosed that Marcus Rashford was "under the weather," which meant that the England international was had to start the game off on the bench.

The Dutchman stated before the match to MUTV: "He's [Eriksen] ill, so we have some illness. Marcus Rashford is also sick and is not feeling very well, but he is able to muster enough energy to play a few minutes in today's game despite his illness."
