Marcus Rashford scored against West Ham on Sunday to keep Manchester United's top-four hopes alive.

Marcus Rashford scored for Manchester United over the weekend against West Ham, and after the goal, Mitchell van der Gaag gestured toward Benni McCarthy as if to imply that the coach had a hand in the goal.

The summer saw Erik ten Hag get two new assistant coaches at Manchester United in the form of Van der Gaag and Steve McClaren. Shortly after that, Benni McCarthy was brought on as a striker coach, making Benni McCarthy the third member of the coaching staff at Manchester United.

McCarthy's hiring was the most unexpected change made by Ten Hag, who also made the decision to keep United's set-piece coach Eric Ramsay, as well as the goalkeeping coaches Richard Hartis and Craig Mawson. However, Ten Hag's decision to hire McCarthy was the biggest surprise of all.

Ten Hag and Van der Gaag are seen standing up and celebrating Marcus Rashford's goal in footage from the match that Manchester United shared on their social media channels on Sunday. The assistant coach then appears to yell "Benni!" in the direction of McCarthy, and Ten Hag can be seen nodding in the same direction.

McCarthy has been a lifelong supporter of Manchester United, and Ten Hag was queried about the employment of McCarthy before to the start of the season. In response, Ten Hag revealed that McCarthy had been brought to Old Trafford to "work on the positioning and offensive stuff" with the strikers.

The Dutchman also praised McCarthy for his extensive career in the sport, and he appeared to acknowledge the worth of the striker coach once more over the weekend, alongside Van der Gaag, when Rashford sprang up to powerfully head home United's winning goal.
