After defeating Chelsea, a goal from Gabriel puts Arsenal back atop the Premier League

Gabriel scores the winning goal for the Gunners in a scrappy play that was a disaster for Graham Potter's men as they celebrate their victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge

Arsenal 1–0 Chelsea

For a while now, the Arsenal winning by a score of 1-0 has not sounded as wonderful to its followers. Or been as comprehensive. The hard-working and unified Mikel Arteta team desired a statement victory to give their unprecedented Premier League title campaign more weight. how they acquired it

Chelsea, under Graham Potter, never found any type of rhythm, and the goal was a horror show. They were forbidden to. Bukayo Saka's flat delivery came from a right-sided corner, and William Saliba attempted to meet it. However, he was unable to do so, and in a darkly humorous turn of events, neither did any of the three Chelsea players who were positioned behind him: Jorginho, Kai Havertz, or Thiago Silva. Although it appeared that Saka's kick had successfully penetrated the goal, Gabriel Magalhes was the one to make the last touch.

There was a lot to like about how Arsenal played. They prevented Chelsea from even having the slightest chance to score; Potter's squad might have played all day without scoring. This was another embarrassing performance after the 4-1 disaster at Brighton the previous Saturday, and several home supporters booed when the game ended.

With Gabriel Jesus, Arsenal had a constant presence up front and dominated midfield, winning battles and finding space to play. He did not allow Chelsea's defensive line to breathe easy.

With their best-ever Premier League start, Arsenal now sit atop the standings ahead of Manchester City, with their supporters jubilantly celebrating in the pouring rain. They are still on track to become the "winter champions," as they are known in other parts of Europe, and if saying that before the World Cup break would elicit jokes, conjuring up images of Arsène Wenger and his "fourth place trophies," for example, it is a good indicator of how far they have come.

It had taken some considerable mental clearing in the stands to adjust to the odd midday kickoff, but it was evident where the clarity would be on the field. Arteta's starting lineup is now automatically selected thanks to a fixed method, but for Chelsea it can be a guessing game, especially as Potter manages a variety of defensive injury issues.

Potter lined up in a flowing 4-2-2-2 midfield formation. Raheem Sterling moved to the extreme right, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek stepped up on the inside right while Havertz rotated higher in the middle, making it a 4-2-3-1 and a diamond, respectively.

Arteta believed that Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, his wingers, would outpace Chelsea fullbacks César Azpilicueta and Marc Cucurella in terms of speed, and there were indications of that during an assured Arsenal start in which they pushed high and made life difficult for their hosts.

Chelsea replies with a place at the table top

Martinelli and Azpilicueta were a poor matchup; Arsenal should have forced the fight more frequently. Saka and Cucurella, on the other hand, were more evenly matched and physical. When Saka was struck by one of the Chelsea player's first-half challenges and there wasn't a foul, Arteta lost his cool. Saka retaliated by kicking Cucurella in order to receive a hasty yellow card.

Chelsea had little time with the ball, which led to sloppy passing with obvious mistakes. The fact that their guy in possession had few choices became more concerning to them as the first half went on. The pass up the inside right for Havertz was the only one that they actually capitalized on before the break. He entered through the back twice but fluffed the cross both times.

Arsenal's first-half dominance did not lead to a breakthrough. They had three chances, each of varied difficulty, with Martinelli's chance for Jesus on the half-hour being the best. It came after a beautiful one-touch passing and coordinated movement move up from the fringe of the Arsenal area. The lone surprise came when Martinelli grabbed control of the situation in the final third and cut inside to blast the ball towards the far post. He restarted but was unable to get close enough for his diving header to gain enough traction.

Before that, Ben White had pushed up from right-back and dragged a shot just beyond the far corner, and Jesus had Silva block a shot after grabbing Loftus-Cheek and racing past two blue shirts. Chelsea had an issue with Jesus' propensity to look for openings and chances between the lines.

Pierre-Emerick Despite Aubameyang's best efforts to excel against the team he had scored 92 goals in 163 appearances for, it was a forgettable afternoon for him. The Arsenal supporters were ready to jeer him at every touch, but he received very few of them. His frustration showed in the late tackle on White for which he received a booking.

After the break, Arsenal continued to exude confidence while Chelsea appeared harried and disorganized. The goal came after yet another instance of Jesus hustle after Thomas Partey glanced wide from a corner when he could have been better leaving the ball for Martinelli behind him. After switching passes with Partey, he tracked back to take down Silva and forced Édouard Mendy to tip behind at his close post.

Gabriel and Saka worked together to take the corner, and Arsenal might have had another but for Saka's high shot at the far post and Martin degaard's mishandled chip after yet another Jesus rush. Chelsea moved silently.
