During the summer, Manchester United traveled to Thailand and Australia for their pre-season tour. However, Cristiano Ronaldo did not accompany the team on this trip.
Cristiano Ronaldo's comments, in which he criticized the club's understanding of his absence from preseason training over the summer, have left Manchester United disappointed. Ronaldo's comments came after Ronaldo criticized the club.
Ronaldo, who is 37 years old, was not selected for Manchester United's pre-season tour squad to go to Thailand and Australia because of personal reasons, which he has since revealed were related to the health of his daughter Bella. Ronaldo did not travel with the team. According to sources close to United, Ronaldo's camp expressed gratitude at the time for the manner in which the club, and in particular chief executive Richard Arnold, handled the situation. Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag publicly reaffirmed that the forward would continue to play an important role in United's plans moving forward.
In July, prior to their pre-season opener against Liverpool, Ten Hag said, "We are planning for Cristiano Ronaldo for the season and that's it and I'm looking forward to working with him." Ronaldo was expected to play for Real Madrid throughout the upcoming campaign. "Cristiano is not up for sale; we have plans for him, and we are committed to achieving our goals together.
"I had a conversation with him prior to the emergence of this problem, and it was a fruitful exchange of ideas and information between us. That is something that only Cristiano and I know about, but I can say with certainty that we had a really enjoyable conversation together."
In an interview with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo expressed his displeasure with the club, stating that he was made to feel disrespected by the lack of support he received over the summer. Ronaldo used this opportunity to criticize the club.
"I spoke with the director and president of Manchester United and they kind of didn't believe that something was going wrong, which made me feel bad," he said. "I spoke with the director and president of Manchester United and they kind of believed that something was going wrong." "They were convinced of it, but in the same way that... Football is not going to convince me to jeopardize the wellbeing of my loved ones in any way, shape, or form. Never. It doesn't matter if they say it now, 10 years from now, or in the future; the fact that they doubt my words that I struggle is something that has caused me a lot of pain. In particular, Ronaldo's daughter Bella and his partner Gio; the four of us spent a week in the hospital because Bella was dealing with a serious issue.
"And as a result of that, I decided not to attend the pre-season. Because I do not believe it is fair to leave my family for the preseason, and because I did not want to be responsible for abandoning them in the event that something went wrong during the preseason. This is the reason I decided not to go."
