Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to leave Manchester United in January and has been offered an improbable escape route.
Following his conversation with Piers Morgan, the forward for Manchester United known as Cristiano Ronaldo has been extended an offer to play in Australia's A-League.
Since the transfer deadline of September 1 passed without a transaction being completed, Ronaldo, who is now 37 years old, has had a tumultuous relationship with the club he currently plays for, Manchester United. Ronaldo intended to leave Old Trafford in the summer in order to play in the Champions League.
The former Real Madrid player ignored Erik ten Hag's instructions to come on as a substitute during Manchester United's 2-0 win over Tottenham at Old Trafford in October, which caused tensions to rise last month. The game was played at Old Trafford. Instead of celebrating with the rest of his team when the game was over, Ronaldo stormed down the tunnel and left before the final buzzer.
Once again, the announcement that Ronaldo would be interviewing Morgan on Sunday night stole the show from what should have been a day of celebration for his teammates. The news of Alejandro Garnacho's game-winning goal in the 93rd minute against Fulham was soon pushed to the back pages and replaced with Ronaldo's charges against the club that he re-joined in the summer of last year.
It would appear that Ronaldo has completely severed ties with United and will be need to find a new club in either the month of January or the summer at the very latest. As a result of comments made by A-League CEO Danny Townsend, the five-time winner of the Ballon d'Or now has a chance to take advantage of an opening that has presented itself for him to play in Australia.
[Ronaldo] stated he wasn't receiving any love and respect at Manchester United, but we'll surely give him plenty of love and respect in Australia," Townsend said in comments carried by News Corp. "We'll certainly give him plenty of love and respect in Australia," Townsend added. Although we may not be able to compete monetarily with other offerings, we may compete with them in other ways.
If he were to transfer to Australia, he would be following in the footsteps of former Manchester United winger Nani, who just this summer signed with Australian Football League club Melbourne Victory.
Townsend continued by saying, "Obviously it's a long shot, but we've certainly had a compelling pitch for him here in Australia to consider."
