Teden Mengi in action
The fact that Erik ten Hag named two goalkeepers to Manchester United's bench for their match against Fulham highlights the lack of squad depth that the club possesses.
That is not the first time that Ten Hag has done that this season, either. The Dutchman will be eager to bring in more of his own signings in the summer, but he will also be aware that others will need to leave the club in order to make room for them. That is not the first time that Ten Hag has done that either.Although there is a lack of squad depth, Manchester United still has a few players that you may have forgotten were still with the club. These players include:
So, the MEN took a look at four players who you might not have remembered were still with United.
Teden Mengi
Teden Mengi, who was born in Manchester and is now 20 years old, was identified as a leading talent in the academy at a young age. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave Teden Mengi his first professional start in the Europa League match against LASK in August of 2020.
Mengi's future looked promising, but the sport has been unkind to him ever since he made his debut. The defender has had to deal with multiple injuries, and as a result, his promising loan spell with Derby County was cut short at the end of the 2020/21 season.
Teden Menhi had appeared to have a bright future at United
Although Mengi made yet another strong impression while on loan at Birmingham City during the previous season, the loan was cut short again due to a recurring hamstring issue, which prevented him from gaining more first-team experience and put him in a position where he was unable to take advantage of the opportunity.
Mengi is currently at his peak physical condition, he has been playing for the U21s in the most recent weeks, and it is anticipated that he will go out on loan in the month of January.
Brandon Williams
The 22-year-old Brandon Williams spent the previous season on loan at Norwich, and he returned to the club with the intention of challenging Diogo Dalot for the right back position. Unfortunately, he was injured for the entirety of preseason, and his fitness problems have carried over into the current season.
The academy graduate was recently on the verge of making his comeback, but he is still out of action and was not included in the matchday squad that played against Fulham.
The summer of 2024 will mark the end of Williams's current deal.

Jones Philip
Before Ralf Rangnick played him against Wolves in January of this year, Phil Jones's last game for United was in the FA Cup against Tranmere in 2020. This year, in January, Ralf Rangnick played him against Wolves. Although the center back had a strong performance in that game at Old Trafford, since then he has only made one other appearance.Jones was taken out of that match, which was played against Liverpool at Anfield in April and resulted in a heavy loss for the home team, by a substitute. Over the course of the past few years, there has been interest from Championship teams in Jones, who is currently in the final year of his contract.

Axel Tuanzebe
Another player who graduated from the academy, Axel Tuanzebe, spent the previous campaign on loan to Napoli. Unfortunately for Tuanzebe, his time spent in Italy did not go well.
Inexplicably, Napoli made the decision to not include Tuanzebe in their squad for the Europa League just a short time after he had moved to Naples. As a result, he was only able to make two appearances for the club in a span of six months, during which he played a combined total of 130 minutes.
