Cristiano Ronaldo has not received a pay-off from United after he left the club
Because his contract was terminated with Manchester United with immediate effect, Cristiano Ronaldo will be leaving the club without receiving any sort of payoff from the organization.
On Tuesday, both parties involved in Ronaldo's contract agreed to have it terminated, but sources have told the Manchester Evening News that he will be leaving the club without having the remaining portion of his contract paid up.
United will save £16 million in wages that were due to the 37-year-old player before his contract was due to expire at the end of June. The exit has been described as a "clean break" by a source, and it means that United will leave without paying the player.
After his explosive interview with Piers Morgan the previous week, in which he claimed he was being forced out of the club and said he had no respect for Erik ten Hag, the decision was made to offer Ronaldo an exit route from the club. This decision came as a result of Ronaldo's statement that he had been "betrayed" by United.
United's response to Ronaldo's comments was led by co-owner Joel Glazer, chief executive Richard Arnold, football director John Murtough, and Ten Hag, with all four of them said to be in agreement that there was no way back for the forward. Ronaldo's comments were made public on February 5, 2019.
Since Ten Hag has placed a significant amount of emphasis on the importance of team spirit during this season, it is reasonable to assume that after reading the contents of Ronaldo's interview, he came to the conclusion that the player needed to find another club to play for.
As of right this moment, Ronaldo is a free agent, which means he is able to join a new team as soon as he chooses to do so. The agreement regarding his departure contains no clauses, and the departure itself is referred to as having "no strings attached."
United said in a statement earlier, when they confirmed his departure from the company: "The departure of Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United has been amicably arranged and will take immediate effect. The club thanks him for his enormous contribution during his two separate stints at Old Trafford, during which time he made 346 appearances and scored 145 goals. The club also sends its best wishes to him and his family for the future.
Everyone at Manchester United is committed to continuing the team's improvement under Erik ten Hag and working cooperatively to achieve success on the field.
Ronaldo released a statement in which he said the following: "Following conversations with Manchester United we have mutually agreed to end our contract early." Ronaldo's statement was made public.
"Both Manchester United and its supporters have my undying affection, and that will never, ever change. On the other hand, I believe that the time has come for me to look for a new challenge.
"I hope that the team has continued success throughout the rest of the season and in the years to come."
