Even though Facundo Pellistri has not yet made his debut for Manchester United, he has started for Uruguay in both of their matches at the World Cup in Qatar.
Fans of Manchester United, who saw Facundo Pellistri start for Uruguay at the Qatar World Cup, are perplexed and unsure of why he hasn't played for the club yet because he's been there for two years and hasn't made his debut at Old Trafford yet. Facundo Pellistri has been at Manchester United for two years without making his debut at Old Trafford.
Agustin Canobbio, who currently plays for the Brazilian club Athletico Paranaense, is the only opponent that Pellistri currently has in the Uruguayan squad. The truth is that Uruguay do not have a lot of talent on the right side of the field. Canobbio has made 44 appearances in 2022, scoring three goals and providing no assists. Even football hipsters who read Mundial Magazine wouldn't pretend to know who he is, despite the fact that Canobbio has contributed three goals.
Pellistri must be one of the only players who has started for his nation at the World Cup without having made his first-team debut for his domestic club. However, his starts for Uruguay have hardly been earned on merit because they have mostly been won by default. Pellistri's starts for Uruguay have been hardly earned on merit because they have mostly been won by default.
The winger is only 20 years old, and it is obviously a fantastic accomplishment to regularly start for Uruguay, regardless of the circumstances. However, it is fortunate for him that he has emerged in his position at a time when the national team clearly lacks quality on the right wing.
Pellistri was an integral part of Uruguay's qualifying campaign for the World Cup, and there has been a long-standing demand from United fans for him to make his debut, despite the fact that there is no real evidence to support those calls. Pellistri played a key role in the qualifying campaign. It is believed that Pellistri must be good enough to play in Manchester if he starts for Uruguay, but the fact that he plays for his country does not necessarily reflect his ability, despite what some people would have you believe.
Last week, he started the game against South Korea, and his performance was nothing more than mediocre, which was not what his cult following on social media had hoped to see. Although Pellistri put in a solid effort, the quality of the work he turned in was not up to par, and he was eventually taken off the field.
It didn't take long for the clamor for Donny van de Beek to start at Old Trafford to die down when the midfielder was given opportunities, and it seems likely that Pellistri could eventually fall victim to the same fate, which could be dubbed the Van de Beek phenomenon.
Pellistri was acquired by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer from Penarol in October 2020 for the fee of £9 million. After being placed in the academy to gain experience and playing six games for the Under-21s, he was loaned out to the La Liga side Deportivo Alaves in January 2021.
It was hoped that Pellistri's loan would hasten his development because he was too small and inexperienced to play for United's first team. Pellistri was too light. Even though he did not score any goals or provide any assists during his time at Alaves, the club decided to re-sign him for another season-long loan the following summer despite the fact that he started only five games for Alaves in the second half of that season and frequently appeared off the bench. Despite this, he only made five starts for Alaves in the second half of that season.
If Pellistri's first six months in Spain were promising, with the player being a young one trying to find his way, then his next 12 months were disastrous, and his move to Spain was an example of a loan move gone wrong. Pellistri spent his time at the club playing for three different managers, and the coach who first signed him, Abelardo Fernandez, had already been fired by the time he was re-signed on loan in the summer. Pellistri played under three different managers during his time at the club.
Pellistri was not considered a first-team starter by the other two managers, and he only played 750 minutes over the course of that full season. This is equivalent to around 80 minutes for each month that he was there. Additionally, he did not score or provide an assist again during that second stint.
It is common knowledge that United was aware of Pellistri's predicament and that they considered recalling him; however, this decision was never made. Pellistri finished the season, and then in the summer he came back to Carrington, eager to make a good impression on Erik ten Hag, who had just been appointed as the new king.
Pellistri scored a goal during the preseason tour of Thailand and Australia against Liverpool, and he made a cameo appearance against Atletico Madrid in Oslo; however, he was unable to make a convincing case for first-team involvement, and he continues to be on the bench.
During the course of the current season, Ten Hag has placed the winger on the subs' bench eight times, but he has never been used in any of those games. Pellistri has only played an official total of sixty minutes at the club level, all of which came during the U21s' match in the Papa John's Trophy against Barrow.
It is said that Pellistri has been desperate to impress and that his attitude can't be questioned, with the player doing extra training; however, he has worked under a number of different managers over the last few years, and each of them has thought that he has not been ready to start.
The fact that he has not yet made his debut at Old Trafford is due to the fact that he has not been good enough. Even though Pellistri is still young and has a lot of time on his side, it appears as though he will be more successful elsewhere, and even his agent has hinted in that direction.
In the beginning of this month, the player's representative made the following statement: "I think with a good World Cup, as we think he is going to have, his departure [from United] is imminent." United are willing to consider loan offers for Pellistri, and it is likely that he will leave on a deal lasting for six months in the month of January.
