If you are an international student from an African country who is self-financing your postgraduate studies, you may be eligible for a scholarship in the amount of £4,000, which will be granted to you in the form of a discount on your tuition price.

Qualification Requirements for the Africa Postgraduate Regional Scholarship 2022/23


You will not be eligible for the University of Essex Scholarships for Africans unless you can demonstrate that you meet each and every one of the following requirements:

Only students who are fully self-sufficient and pay their own tuition from another country are eligible for these scholarships.
The word "ordinary inhabitant" will be defined further down in the terms and conditions, so make sure you read those before proceeding (defined as a member state of the African Union).
Candidates who have graduated from an accredited secondary school or university in one of the nations listed above may be eligible to receive one of these scholarships.
Applicants are required to have received their undergraduate degree with the grade stated or a grade higher. A higher grade in the master's program cannot be taken to compensate for a lower grade in the bachelor's program; Eligible courses are those which are full-time taught Masters courses leading to MA, MSc, LLM, MFA, and MRes degrees that start in October 2022 and January 2023 respectively.
Applicants who have firmly accepted an offer of a place by the deadline of 16 September 2022 (for October 2022 start) or 06 January 2023 (for January 2023 start) and have met the academic conditions of entry will be considered for these scholarships.
A student is only eligible to receive one scholarship grant from the University of Essex, and that award cannot be held in conjunction with any of the university's other scholarships.
Only the first year of a master's degree program is covered by this grant. Applicants who are successful should be willing to participate in promotional activities.
Specific Demands Made by Each Country:
3.0 out of 4.0 cumulative grade point average required in Ghana
Nigeria: CGPA of 3/5 or higher required.
A ratio of 2:1 or higher for all other African Union member states (or equivalent as defined by our Postgraduate Admissions selection criteria)


How to Make an Application


Instructions for Applying: In order to be considered for the scholarship, you will first need to submit an application to study at the University of Essex. If you are eligible for the scholarship and meet the requirements outlined above, your application will be reviewed immediately. There is no need for you to complete an application form.

Your application for a seat at Essex will be evaluated, and your eligibility will be determined based on the academic transcripts and certifications that you provide with it.

The deadline for applications is in September (Annually)
