How about ChatGPT on Smartwatches? Yes, It Exists (And It's Useful!)

Wearable artificial intelligence on the forearm

Artificial intelligence (AI) is coming to your wrist, and this could be a positive thing, according to experts.

Petey (formerly watchGPT) is a brand-new Apple Watch application. The voice assistant enables wrist-based interaction with a large language model (LLM) automaton that generates human-like text.

"AI chatbots can be helpful in smartwatches by providing quick and convenient access to information and services," said tech investor Kevin Miller in an email interview with Lifewire. "With a chatbot on their smartwatch, users can quickly receive answers to their questions or complete tasks, such as making a reservation or ordering food, without needing to pull out their phone or computer."

AI Smartwatch App

The new Petey app (formerly watchGPT) promises to ultimately fulfill the potential of the Apple Watch to access global internet information. According to numerous observers, the built-in intelligent assistant Siri is ineffective in many situations. The_Franchise_09, a Reddit user, recently did not hold back when criticizing Siri.

The_Franchise_09 wrote on the forum, "There are so many issues, from basic voice recognition and understanding what I'm saying to not being able to do even a third of what rival voice assistants can do." "She does not excel at anything. I'm noticeably irritated by her inability to execute fundamental core commands or comprehend fundamental sentences. She cannot even perform basic functions competently. Today, I asked her to remind me to get a COVID booster on Friday, but instead of creating a reminder, she searches the web for COVID boosters. I had a Galaxy Note 9 for a while, and the Google Assistant puts Siri to shame; it's the only Android feature I miss.

Petey is not the only artificial intelligence smartwatch application. Citizen's most recent CZ Smart smartwatches include an artificial intelligence self-care advisor."The new proprietary YouQ app was developed with IBM Watson Studio and NASA technology in order to "maximize [the wearer's] daily potential," according to the company.

The Citizen watch utilizes data captured by the watch, such as Alert Scores, chronotype, sleep patterns, activity, heart rate monitoring, and CZ Smart YouQ, to learn the wearer's habits and enhance personalization. The company claims that the watch's dynamic recognition mode helps the wearer combat fatigue and increase alertness.

Artificial Intelligence for Your Wrist

Petey, a new Apple Watch app, promises to provide quick answers to queries and the ability to generate longer messages without typing. You can also share your responses via text message, email, or social media. The application can be configured as a widget for simple access.

Petey uses ChatGPT, a chatbot with artificial intelligence developed by OpenAI and released in 2022. It is based on OpenAI's GPT-3 family of LLMs and can produce speech that sounds human-like.

John Licato, a professor of Computer Science and engineering at the University of South Florida, stated in an email interview that the GPT-3 software is so realistic that users can no longer presume they will be able to distinguish between humans and bots when exchanging short-form text online.

"Online discussion platforms like Reddit and Twitter are almost certainly already overrun by bots posing as humans," Licato said. "Articles are almost entirely (and in some instances entirely) written by algorithms. Already, computer programmers are adopting tools that write a portion of their code automatically."

Miller predicted that AI applications for smartwatches could become ubiquitous in the future. "They can be excellent virtual personal assistants that help users manage their schedules, intelligent home controllers that allow users to turn on lights or adjust room temperature from their wrists, and even healthcare monitors that track vital signs and provide individualized recommendations," he added.

Students with AI on their wearables may have an advantage in the classroom. Every college-level course will be significantly impacted in some fashion by this technology, according to Licato. "And I don't believe it's an exaggeration to state that every field of study will be affected by new tools, both positively (productivity) and negatively (e.g., for cheating or producing false information). OpenAI has opened a Pandora's box with regard to accessibility and scalability.
