This morning, May 30, 2023, operatives of the Lagos Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, were denied entry to their office at No. 15 Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, by agents of the Department of State Services, DSS, who had barricaded the entrance with armored personnel carriers.
The Commission finds this development peculiar given that we have cohabitated with the DSS in that facility for twenty years without incident.
By denying operatives access to their offices, operations at the Commission's main hub with over 500 personnel, hundreds of exhibits, and numerous suspects in detention have been disrupted.
Today's court hearings have been canceled, and a large number of suspects who had been invited for interrogation are left unattended.

Even more alarming is the fact that detained suspects are not cared for, which has severe implications for their rights as inmates.
All of these have far-reaching effects on the nation's combat against economic and financial crimes.
The siege is inconsistent with the anticipated synergy among agencies working for the same government and nation, particularly given the ongoing discussions on the subject.
