Tinubu writes the Senate and requests confirmation of the Service Chiefs

President Bola Tinubu wrote to the Senate to screen and confirm the new Chief of Defence Staff and service chiefs.

The request was included in a letter addressed to Senator Godswill Akpabio, President of the Senate.

Tuesday during Plenary, Akpabio read the letter and stated that the request was consistent with the Armed Forces Act.

Remember that President Tinubu appointed Major General Christopher Musa as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Major General bTaoreed Lagbaja as the chief of the Army Staff last month.

In addition, Tinubu appointed Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla as Chief of Naval Staff, Air Vice Marshal Hassan Abubakar as Chief of Air Staff, and Major General Emmanuel Undiandeye as Chief of Defence Intelligence.

He urged the Red Chamber to expeditiously consider his request.

As there was no Standing Committee on Armed Forces, Akpabio referred the request to the Committee of the Whole. This means that the Service Chiefs will be screened on the Senate floor, rather than at the Committee level.
