Peter Obi vs Tinubu: Tribunal Adjourns Hearing As INEC Witnesses Fail To Show Up

Monday, the Presidential Election Petition Court postponed the hearing in the petition filed by Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party.

The court adjourned till  Tuesday, July 4, 2023, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was unable to present its defense due to the absence of its witnesses.

Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN), the attorney for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), told the court that although his client intends to call three witnesses within three days, the one scheduled for today is unavailable due to family issues.

Mahmoud then requested a postponement until Tuesday so that the witness could attend court.

Mahmoud's request was not opposed by the attorneys for the other parties in the case: Livy Uzoukwu (SAN) for Obi/LP, Wole Olanipekun (SAN) for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettma, and Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The presiding judge, Justice Haruna Tsammani, has adjourned the hearing until Tuesday at 9 a.m.
