Manchester United receive double injury boost ahead of Crystal Palace fixture

Injury Comebacks Boost Manchester United.

Mason Mount and Harry Maguire are poised to bolster Manchester United's lineup for their upcoming Carabao Cup clash against Crystal Palace.

Mount has been sidelined since suffering a hamstring injury during United's 2-0 defeat to Tottenham last month. Despite returning to full training earlier this week, the midfielder was omitted from the squad that faced Burnley over the weekend. However, he has been given additional time to recover and is now anticipated to be fit for selection in the Tuesday night encounter against Palace.

Meanwhile, Harry Maguire, who missed the Burnley fixture due to injury, could make his season debut for United. Although he did not travel with the squad to Turf Moor, the center-back fully participated in training sessions in preparation for the Palace showdown.

Manchester United vs. Burnley Highlight

Over the past 18 months, Maguire has seen a reduction in his prominence within the center-back hierarchy. Nonetheless, the upcoming fixture against Palace provides an opportunity for him to regain his starting position.

With Raphael Varane just returning from his own injury, Erik ten Hag opted for Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans in the central defensive roles against Burnley, and the latter received commendations for his performance.

It's worth noting that Mason Mount, who joined United from Chelsea for an initial fee of £55 million this summer, has predominantly played in a deeper midfield role in his two appearances for the club thus far. However, upon his return to action, there is a possibility that he may assume a right-wing position, particularly considering the unavailability of Antony and Jadon Sancho. During his time at Chelsea, Mount demonstrated his versatility by playing on the right wing.

Regarding the potential positional switch for Mount, Ten Hag commented, "This has been discussed before, but we have options on the right, and we will see how we fill it in. We have the options, but they also need to be available, and we have to establish the necessary routines. Nevertheless, the underlying principles and guidelines remain clear."
