Luis Enrique explains why David de Gea was pulled out of Spain's team

Spain's forthcoming friendly against Albania and Iceland will be without David de Gea.

It has been stated by Spain manager Luis Enrique that he left Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea out of his last team announcement because he does not fit their style of play.

On the eve of the international break, it was revealed that Spain would play friendly against Albania and Iceland without De Gea. David Raya of Brentford has been given his first call-up by Enrique, who has named three goalkeepers in his team.
Raymond, who has never represented Spain at any level, has grown in confidence in recent years and has preserved five clean sheets in 15 games in his first season in the Premier League, which began last season. Brentford goalkeeper Tom Heaton was frequently linked with a move to Arsenal during the summer transfer window. He is famous for his passing abilities as well as his versatility as a sweeper keeper.

Raya, on the other hand, possesses the qualities that convinced Enrique to give him his first call-up, excluding De Gea in the process. Spain's regular No. 1 is Unai Simon of Valencia and Robert Sanchez of Brighton Hove Albion have been appointed to the other two goalkeeping positions.

"It is part of the tracing we do with the goalkeepers," explained Enrique, when asked why Raya had received his first call-up to the team. "He is a really good player who is having a great season.

"I'd really like to see it in the context of the overall selection procedure. He possesses the requisite characteristics to join us in our game."

De Gea's lack of inclusion in Spain's team as they continue their preparations for the World Cup later this year is really the only explanation Enrique could offer for doing so. Despite the fact that United have had a disappointing season, De Gea has been a ray of sunshine, putting in some brilliant displays and making a number of outstanding saves.
There have been times when De Gea hasn't had a great international career. After a 1-0 win over Ukraine in October 2020 in which he appeared in 45 games, he has not played for the national team since.

He was a non-factor during Spain's European Championship campaign last summer and has made no appearances in the country's World Cup qualification campaign this year. The fact that he was omitted from Enrique's team for two dead-rubber friendly suggests that he will not be included in his squad for the championship event in Qatar at the end of the season.
