Even if his initial shot on goal did not meet up to his great standards, he was able to grant the wish of those United fans just before the half time whistle blew against Newcastle.
The goal scored by Ronaldo was a present for all of his devoted supporters. But in reality, it was given to him for free by the goalkeeper for Newcastle, Freddie Woodman, who botched his attempt to deal with Mason Greenwood's optimistic shot. This allowed him to score.
Greenwood's low drive was deflected by Woodman and into the path of Ronaldo, who was so close to the ball that he could not have missed it even if he had tried.
It was Ronaldo's first goal for United since 2009, bringing his total for the club to 119.
