In an interview with Sjoerd Overgoor, the former Go Ahead Eagles midfielder revealed the amount of attention to detail that Erik ten Hag will almost likely demonstrate during his time at Manchester United.
It has been months since rumors began to swirl about the 52-year-potential old's appointment as the club's next permanent manager. The Ajax manager, who was interviewed for the post just over three weeks ago, is now very close to agreeing to take over at Old Trafford ahead of the start of the upcoming season.
United's favored choice to take over from Ralf Rangnick and supervise the next chapter in the club's history, as reported by the Manchester Evening News earlier this month, is Ten Hag, according to a report in the Manchester Evening News. Bringing new ideas to Old Trafford and creating a new mindset will be the Dutchman's responsibility as he attempts to bring the good times back to the club.
And if his past performance is any indication, he is not likely to disappoint. When it comes to managing teams, Ten Hag is known for going above and beyond to ensure the success of everyone involved.
In an interview with Overgoor, who played under Ten Hag at Go Ahead Eagles during the latter's first term in management, the Dutchman revealed how dedicated he was to making everything flawless. He has even gone into detail about how Ten Hag paid particular attention to the length of the playing field.
Overgoor told Sky Sports that the man wanted the beverages arranged in straight lines. "Everything had to be absolutely flawless in his eyes." It took some time for people to adjust to this. A single individual was assigned the responsibility of looking after the pitch.
"Eric's constant demands that the grass be at least two millimeters tall drove him crazy. The impact on everyone at the club was significant.. He had a profound impact on everything.
"Keep in mind that this is not a major club in the Netherlands. We didn't have the best facilities, but he turned them into the best they could be.
"Numerous coaches enter organizations like as Eagles with the idea that they must deal with whatever is going on. He didn't deal with it in any way. Instead, he improved it on a continual basis."
Since taking over at Ajax in December 2017, Ten Hag has led the club to a number of victories. However, taking over at Old Trafford will be his most difficult job yet. However, time must be given to him because he is expected to win trophies and fight for the Premier League title.
