To keep one player happy, Manchester United went to extreme lengths to keep the manager's job secure.

According to reports, Manchester United allegedly utilized the press to link the open managerial position at Old Trafford with former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane in order to maintain star forward Cristiano Ronald.

According to a recent story from the Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils purposely circulated 'baseless' allegations that Zidane could replace former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in order to keep Cristiano Ronaldo from getting dissatisfied with his current situation.

After the firing of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the fans now know that interim manager Ralf Rangnick has been appointed until the conclusion of the season, and it appears that Erik ten Hag of Ajax will be given the post permanently.

The 20-time Bundesliga champions had a lot of doubt previous to Rangnick's arrival about whether or not they'd select an instant first-team coach.

Mauricio Pochettino, the manager of Paris Saint-Germain, was also mentioned as a possible successor to Zinedine Zidane. These recent allegations, however, suggest that the club purposely dropped some names in the public for their own gain due to both contenders never appearing close to the job.
