Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard has called for the club to'regroup quickly' following their defeat to Liverpool, with two more high-profile matches on the horizon. Luis Diaz, Sadio Mane, and a double from Mohamed Salah gave Jurgen Klopp's team a comfortable 4-0 victory over Manchester United on Tuesday night.
On Sunday, they face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, and on Wednesday, they welcome Chelsea at Old Trafford. Despite the setback, Manchester United still have a slim chance of finishing in the top four this season.
In order for Manchester United to get back into contention for a place in the Champions League, Lingard believes they must win both of their games this week. "We've got a big game coming up," says the coach. Lingard told MUTV that "it's a big three points on Saturday," and that "we've have to regroup swiftly this week".
The game is free, so we'll go there with the mindset of winning, stay on the front foot, be intense, and do the basics. We'll have the energy to go and win the game. Before you can begin playing, we have to put in a lot of effort. Win your individual battles, and you will, perhaps, be able to win the game.
"We're going to put in a lot of effort this week." As our training matches our game, we can raise the level of energy and intensity in training to help us achieve our objectives."
Lingard came on as a substitute in the first half of the contest at Anfield, but he was thrust into the action after only 10 minutes when teammate Paul Pogba was forced off with an injury.
"I'm always prepared," he continued. Coming in, I was aware of my responsibilities and knew what I needed to do to contribute to the team's success. Every time I step on the field, every time I put on a Manchester United shirt, I want to give my everything. Bring energy to the team and take the initiative in the pressing.
"I just want to play football, that's all I want." It was a pleasure to compete against Norwich, and I had a good time. Despite the fact that I was beginning to get into the flow of the game, I was forced to leave. For this game, I was expecting to start again, but Paul was injured and I was able to come on and play the most of the game regardless of where I started. I'm always prepared, and I'm always confident in my ability to play. As I already stated, as soon as I get onto the field, I give everything I have for the shirt."
