Paul Pogba's Manchester United career is over, according to Ralf Rangnick.
Paul Pogba will be out for four weeks because he injured his calf in the 4-0 defeat by Liverpool. He is out of contract on June 30. Rangnick said it is 'very probable he won’t be here anymore next season'.
A fitting finale to a tumultuous six years at Manchester United for the 29-year-old. Despite his talent, Pogba was too unpredictable for Manchester United, and he took delight in the resignation of Jose Mourinho on Twitter in 2018.
For the past three years, Pogba has been stuck at United owing to the Covid-19 pandemic and a lack of suitable offers. Pogba's second United contract is ready to expire, exactly ten years after he left on a free transfer for Juventus in 2012.
"He’s wounded, he’s a player who won the World Cup with France, he’s such a brilliant player that he was a regular starter for a team like France," Rangnick remarked. It's well-known that he has the potential to be a very good player.
"Many players, including him, were having difficulty sustaining their best performances for a team like Manchester United. In other words, this hasn't happened just recently or this season; it's always been the case. As far as I remember it was likewise the situation in earlier years.
"For me, it's impossible to tell [why]. If I or other coaches understood it would be easier to change that but I don’t know. For the time being, it's pointless to speculate because he won't be available for tomorrow's game or any others that follow.
"Currently, it appears that he will not extend his contract, and I don't know if the club or Erik [ten Hag] would refuse to renew his contract, I don't know. He won't be back next season, most likely."
In a potential final riposte, Rangnick attacked Pogba's game-management in the moments previous to Liverpool's opening goal.
When asked about the Arsenal game, he said: "Tomorrow it's about displaying the basics, being compact, being behind the ball, and being able to attack and sprint in the correct moments." "Even with Pogba stumbling across the ground, standing on the halfway line was never in the cards.
"He should have sat down or laid down on the ground, but he was hobbling behind the referee and telling him he was injured. Liverpool is one of the best teams in the world at transitions, so when we were down one player and still attacking high up against them, that wasn't very smart.
"As we prepare for tomorrow, we must be compact and close together, and we must be on the offensive anytime it is feasible to put them under pressure and then create our own transitional moments. This is the fundamental concept of the game."
Paris Saint-Germain reportedly made Pogba an offer last month, according to the Manchester Evening News. A player Juventus transferred to United in 2016 for a then-world record £89 million is also on their radar.
After this weekend's trip to Arsenal, United face Chelsea and Brentford at home and Brighton and Crystal Palace on the road. The domestic season ends four weeks on Sunday.
