In the Darwin Nunez competition, Manchester United's astronomical transfer budget is a major setback..

Darwin Nunez is rumored to be a target for Manchester United in the summer transfer window, but Erik ten Hag may not be able to sign him if he is given a low budget for the summer transfer window, as is expected.

In the forthcoming transfer window, Manchester United want to sign two midfielders and a striker, according to this week's Telegraph report that Darwin Nunez is their top target at forward for United.

With 33 goals in 38 games for Benfica this season, it's easy to see why Manchester United are interested in the 22-year-old forward from Portugal's capital city.

Manchester United will be unable to meet Benfica's asking price for the striker, according to the Daily Mail, since the club plans to give new manager ten Hag only £50million this summer.

Ten Hag has reportedly been given permission by the club's board of directors to fully revamp the squad, but only on this limited budget.

In return for the Dutchman's vow to oversee the club's transfer policy and have ultimate say over who leaves and who enters, Old Trafford must now rely heavily on player sales to effect significant changes.

United supporters will be pleased and disappointed by this report. As good as it is to hear that ten Hag will be in charge of signings, his £50million budget will limit his ability to make major changes.

Some players in the current Manchester United roster aren't wanted by other clubs, therefore the club might potentially improve its revenue by selling them.
