Ralf Rangnick does not feel that Manchester United's ability to attract top-tier players in the transfer market will be diminished as a result of their likely failure to qualify for the Champions League.
Rangnick has all but written off Manchester United's slim hopes of finishing fourth in the Premier League after three defeats in their past four games, with four more games to go. United is six points adrift of Arsenal, who has a game in hand. Arsenal is in fourth place.
Several players currently under contract with the club, including Lee Grant, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, and Edinson Cavani, are expected to leave the club when their contracts expire in June. A number of players currently under contract with the club are also open to leaving.
Manchester United are expected to spend a lot of money this summer to help rebuild their team. Interim manager Philipp Rangnick thinks that Bruno Fernandes's recent contract renewal shows that the club still has a lot of appeal, even though they had a bad season.
"Of course, it would be preferable if we could compete in the Champions League next season, but this is a problem that affects other clubs as well, and it is not a problem that only Manchester United has," Rangnick explained.
When results aren't going well, as they have been the last four games, "it is inevitable that morale and energy in the locker room aren't as high as they would be if we had won those four games," Rangnick explained. "Obviously, when results aren't going well, as they have been the last four games," Rangnick added.
"We still have to perform, that's what we're paid to do. It's important for players, now that they know who their new manager will be, to perform and to demonstrate in front of 75,000 people tomorrow that they are capable of beating a team like Chelsea."
"This is our job, this is what everyone has to do, and this is what we have been working towards all week in preparation for the game."
