Former Manchester United manager Gary Neville has stated that he did not believe his team would resort to the shouts shouted at them during their 4-0 defeat to Brighton. Despite the demoralising defeat, Ralf Rangnick's team summed up the Reds' disappointing season well when they were beaten by Brighton in the Reds' penultimate game of the season.
During the one-sided encounter, fans chanted, "You're not fit to wear the shirt," referring to the player. United will finish with their lowest points total in their Premier League history if they are defeated, with sixth likely to be the best possible finish in the standings.
While declaring that the players had "thrown in the towel," Neville couldn't argue with the sentiment, adding on his own Sky Sports podcast: "The players have thrown in the towel." "I don't have anything to contribute other than the fact that the players are only hurting themselves.
"Every minute they spend on the field for that football team is a minute they are putting themselves in a position where supporters will never forget them. That sort of song was heard at QPR a few years ago, as well as at Sunderland, where they were walking out. I've never heard Manchester United fans descend to that kind of chant before.
"Throughout my career, I've
never witnessed a fandom turn on their favorite team quite like this one, but it's now very evident that they've given up, they really have. It has been a source of embarrassment for some months."
