The former vice president of the Nigerian Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife, Beatrice Ekweremadu, were denied bail by the Uxbridge Magistrates' Court in London after being charged with alleged child organ harvesting conspiracy by the London Metropolitan Police.
The PREMIUM TIMES previously reported that the couple was arrested and accused with conspiracy to harvest the organs of a kid they brought to London on Thursday.
According to Arise TV, the prosecution charged the Ekweremadus with transferring a 15-year-old boy from Nigeria to the United Kingdom under the pretense that he would have a better life there, but in reality to harvest his organs.
Prosecutors reportedly informed the court that Mr. Ekweremadu obtained a passport for the youngster under the false pretense that he was 21 years old, but they discovered that the boy was actually 15 years old.
According to the prosecution, the couple has a daughter who has been on dialysis for quite some time due to a kidney-related condition. They said that they believe their daughter, who appears to require a kidney transplant, was the intended recipient of the boy's organ.

According to Arise News, Mr. Ekweremadu and his wife had separate legal representations and asked the court to release them on bond, but the Magistrate denied their request.
The pair has returned their passports to the government of the United Kingdom.
According to a letter acquired by PREMIUM TIMES from people close to Mr. Ekweremadu in late 2021, the congressman wrote the British High Commission in Nigeria in favor of a man's visa application.
Mr. Ekweremadu mentioned in the letter that the applicant was traveling to the United Kingdom for a medical checkup in order to potentially donate a kidney to his daughter Sonia.
He stated that the examination would be conducted at the Royal Free Hospital in London.
The letter did not reveal the victim's age, but British prosecutors asserted that the victim is a juvenile and that Mr. Ekweremadu lied about his age being 21.
The Magistrate ruled that they remain in detention until the next hearing on the case on July 7, 2022.
