Uzodimma offers ultimatum to bandits
Governors are employing extreme measures to combat the escalating insecurity in their own states.
Terrorists, bandits, and other types of criminals are relentless in their evil actions.As a result of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu's directive to install Closed-Circuit Televisions (CCTVs) in public and private institutions, including schools, churches, and mosques, the Ondo State House of Assembly has unveiled proposals to strengthen the law establishing the Amotekun security force.
On the 5th of June, terrorists infiltrated Owo and murdered forty worshippers at St. Francis Catholic Church. 61 other people were hurt.
To bolster Amotekun in Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde authorized the employment of an additional 500 agents.
The governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, has given bandits a 10-day ultimatum to accept amnesty or be bombarded.
Two weeks ago, when discussing the security situation in the country, Governor Akeredolu warned that governors cannot fold their arms or rely solely on the federal police to adequately defend the lives and property of residents.
He added that the federal government should be prepared for a scenario in which citizens will take matters into their own hands and arm themselves to combat terrorism.
Regarding the state's new security measures, Zamfara State Information Commissioner Ibrahim Dosara stated, "The government has ordered citizens to prepare and acquire firearms to defend themselves against robbers.
"The government has ordered the state police commissioner to provide a license to all those who qualify and seek to acquire such firearms for self-defense.
"The government is prepared to assist citizens, particularly our farmers, in acquiring basic guns for self-defense.
"The government has already made provisions to distribute 500 forms to each of the state's 19 emirates for people wishing to acquire firearms for self-defense."

The commissioner stated that the government has resolved to combat the recent escalation in bandit assaults, kidnappings, and violence against communities.
He stated, "This terrorist act has caused alarm and concern among the state's citizens and authorities."
"Therefore, in order to address the problem decisively, the administration has no choice but to take these steps."
The commissioner stressed, however, that citizens must seek a license from the Commissioner of Police in order to possess firearms and other basic weapons for self-defense.
Dosara stated, "A secretariat or center will be established to collect intelligence on informant operations."
Residents are strongly cautioned and instructed to ensure that any information or intelligence gathered on an informant is 100% accurate.
Bello Bakyasuwa Soja, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), presided over a committee of 11 individuals charged with collecting intelligence on the actions of informants.
He also announced the addition of a paramilitary unit to assist with command and control in order to properly and efficiently strengthen the CPGs' operations.
The new unit consists of eight members, with retired police commissioner Mamman Anka serving as commandant-general.
Dosara stated that the state administration had created an 11-member commission to prosecute banditry-related crimes, led by Dr. Sani Abdullah Wanban Shinkafi.
Governor Bello Matawalle ordered the immediate closure of all markets, including cattle markets, in the Mada, Wonaka, and Ruwan Bore Districts of Gusau Local Government Area and the Yandoto Emirate of Tsafe Local Government Area.
"The governor has similarly prohibited the use of motorbikes and the sale of petroleum products in the districts of Mada, Wonaka, and Ruwan Bore, as well as the emirate of Yandoto.
"Effective immediately, all gas stations in the concerned regions are hereby closed.
"Anyone spotted riding a motorcycle in these locations is considered a thief, and security forces are ordered to shoot them on sight.
"This announcement directs security agencies to ensure rigorous compliance.
"Anyone discovered in violation of this order shall be punished according to the law. The government would never condone the killing of innocent individuals.
"The government hereby orders the Military, the Nigeria Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other security agencies to immediately mobilize their personnel and take the fight to the criminals' enclaves."
10-day ultimatum to bandits in Imo Uzodimma issued a 10-day ultimatum to bandits in Imo, demanding that they submit themselves and their weapons to their traditional rulers in exchange for unconditional pardon, or suffer bombing.
After Sunday Service at the Administration House Chapel in Owerri, the governor said that the government has chosen to cleanse the forests of Imo of bandits and has acquired the requisite equipment.
Uzodimma urged the outlaws to utilize the amnesty and reinsert themselves into society.
The governor also announced that the annual Army Day celebration will be held in Imo State from June 30 to July 6, 2022.
Uzodimma stated that as of June 27, Imo State will receive military equipment that will be deployed to rid the state of any remaining bandits hiding in bushes.
However, he permitted bandits in the jungles ten days to emerge from their tunnels and, if required, report to their traditional rulers or council chairs so that the government would award them amnesty.
He stated that the grace period will not be extended and warned that individuals who do not take advantage of it will have only themselves to blame.
Amotekun Makinde discussed the recruitment of 500 men for the Oyo State Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN) at a security meeting with local government chairmen, vice chairmen, heads of security agencies, and traditional rulers, among other stakeholders, at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat in Ibadan.
He viewed security as a shared obligation involving the engagement of all parties involved.
He stated, "Security is everyone's responsibility, and if we all do our part correctly, the environment will be safer and more secure."
Regarding the operation of the Amotekun corps, we have refined the procedure of engaging 500 more hands in order to improve their performance and strengthen the security architecture of our state.
The Ondo Assembly will examine Amotekun law
The Ondo State House of Assembly has initiated a review of the statute establishing Amotekun to combat the state's escalating insecurity.
Gbenga Omole, the Assembly's spokesman, said this in conjunction with the Oka Security Summit organized by the Oka community in Akoko Southwest Local Government Area over the weekend.
Omole, a member of the House Committee on Security, stated that the revised law would grant the Amotekun corps access to more advanced technology and weapons to combat security threats.
"All information on such informants must have accurate information about the suspects, including their photographs, their names, addresses, and occupations, as well as witnesses who can attest to the veracity of the information provided."
"The government will take harsh action against anyone who is discovered to be an informant." Whoever provides false information against another person will get the same punishment as an informant and be handled as such.
He stated that the administration had requested the State House of Assembly to pass the Informants Bill as a matter of urgency so that it could implement the harsh penalties against informants outlined in the bill.
He stated that the government had authorized the recruitment of an additional 200 Community Protection Guards (CPGs) in each of the 19 emirates, increasing the total number of CPGs per emirate to 500.
