Sancho, Fernandes and Ronaldo in: how Man Utd could line up when Rashford returns – opinion

Marcus Rashford is nearing a return from injury, with the 23-year-old back in full training earlier this week. The news was confirmed by the manager in his weekly press conference and there is hope he could be involved shortly after the international break.

Rashford has been a mainstay in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side over the last two seasons, with the player reaching the 20-goal mark in both seasons. Rashford is a goalscoring winger and his threat from the flank has been missed, with Luke Shaw also suffering from his absence.

Manchester United continued their inconsistent start to the season this weekend against Everton, with the visitors stealing a point at Old Trafford. A two-week break is upon us and Solskjaer could look to shuffle his pack sooner rather than later and the inclusion of Rashford is inevitable.

Jadon Sancho has endured a troublesome start to life in Manchester but long-term, he is definitely in the manager’s plans and is still likely to be one of his most-used players this season. Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes are near-givens in the side, whilst Solskjaer’s persistence with Scott McTominay and Fred is unlikely to change.

The backline picks itself, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, and Raphael Varane all undoubtedly first-choice options for the manager. Dean Henderson ended last season as the side’s first-choice goalkeeper but an incredible resurgence from David de Gea has seen the Spaniard reclaim the position he made his own over the last 10 years.

Paul Pogba is unlucky to miss out on a place in the side but with Rashford back in his usual position, Sancho is likely to play on the right-hand side whilst McTominay and Fred are both preferred to Pogba in midfield.

Mason Greenwood has started the season in blistering form but the expectation has always been that his minutes will be managed throughout the campaign, hence why he is yet to receive a call-up to the England fold this season.
