Harry Maguire limping after Germany disaster at Wembley

It is currently unknown whether or not Harry Maguire will be able to play for Manchester United when they travel to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday due to an injury he sustained during England's 3-3 draw against Germany at Wembley Stadium on Monday.

After England's 3-3 draw with Germany on Monday night, the captain of Manchester United, Harry Maguire, was observed limping around the locker room.

Maguire, who is now 29 years old, had a game that he would rather forget against Hansi Flick's squad because he gave up a careless penalty at the start of the second half. The performance of the defender has led to additional questions being asked about whether or not he should be included in England's 26-man squad for the World Cup in Qatar.

After committing a costly foul on Jamal Musiala, Maguire was filmed limping out of Wembley, and it appeared that he had picked up an injury in the process. In addition, Gareth Southgate shared the following information with the press: "John [Stones] is feeling something with his hamstring, and I think Harry is feeling something as well, at least a little bit."

England skipper Harry Kane added: "H [Maguire] sustained a fairly serious injury toward the end of that, but he continued to play for another five or ten minutes on what was essentially one leg. I am so impressed with his moral fiber, and I am extremely proud of him for that."

It is too soon to say whether Maguire will be fit for United's game against Manchester City on Sunday afternoon at the Etihad, as Erik ten Hag's doctors will need to evaluate his complaint. The match will take place in Manchester. During the press conference that will take place on Friday, Ten Hag will provide additional information.

Maguire is not in United's strongest XI at the moment because of the emergence of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez, but Ten Hag will still want him to be fit over the coming weeks. In the month of October, the Red Devils will have to play in at least nine different matches.

During the following month, Manchester United will face a variety of challenging opponents, including City, Everton, Tottenham, Newcastle, and Chelsea. There is also a possibility that the games against Crystal Palace and Leeds that were postponed could be rescheduled for the month of October, although this seems quite improbable.

Luke Shaw has come to Maguire's defense after the latter received feedback regarding his performance in the match against Germany. When asked about Maguire, Shaw responded by saying, "I will be honest, it is a tough period at the moment," as quoted by BBC Football Daily.

"Without a doubt, Harry is an incredible player and an incredible character. He has been the recipient of a great deal of criticism, possibly more than I have ever witnessed in the game of football, but he never runs away from it.

The irate response that Paul Pogba gave to Cristiano Ronaldo's claim suggests that Erik ten Hag will make a U-turn.

"He is never absent from the scene. It is possible to have people who are able to hide away and do not want to be in the spotlight, but he continues to put himself in the spotlight, and this demonstrates the strength and character he possesses because, come on, everyone knows that he is an incredible player."

Maguire has also received support from Southgate. He stated, "I know everyone will focus on Harry... but I think in these moments we've got to back our best and our most experienced players, unless we're in a situation where it's almost untenable and impossible to pick them." He was referring to the situation in which it would be almost impossible to select them.

Maguire has issued an apology for the mistake that was made on Instagram on Monday. It was written here: "I realize that making mistakes is just a part of the game, and I apologize for that. The lads put up a valiant effort and showed a lot of spirit to get us back into the game. Consider the bright side, and look forward to what will happen in Qatar. The difficult times will ultimately result in our becoming stronger."
