Facundo Pellistri might make his long-awaited debut for Manchester United on Thursday night when the club hosts Omonia Nicosia in a Europa League match at Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag is the manager of Man United.
It's possible that Erik ten Hag will rotate his players during Manchester United's match against Omonia on Thursday night. This will also give some of Manchester United's bench players a chance to show what they're made of. Facundo Pellistri is one of the players who has a chance to make an appearance at Old Trafford and, in some ways, save his career there.
Pellistri, who is now 20 years old, moved to United from Uruguayan side Penarol in a deal worth £9 million in the year 2020. Prior to that, he had played youth team football for La Picada and River Plate Montevideo.
Pellistri made his way back to United this summer after spending the previous two loan periods with Deportivo Alaves, where he played only a few minutes per game. Due to the fact that the Spanish team spent a significant portion of the previous campaign fighting off relegation before being demoted to the Segunda Division, their manager opted to play the more experienced Edgar Mendez rather than the Uruguayan winger.
After the summer transfer window had closed, Pellistri was still playing for United despite the widespread belief among fans of the club that he would either be sold or sent back out on loan. And despite the fact that he was given some playing time during the preseason, he has not yet been called up to the senior team for this season.
The fact that he was selected for Uruguay's national team squad during the international break despite the fact that he hasn't played for United this season demonstrates that Diego Alonso, the manager of Uruguay's national team, has some faith in the player's ability even though he isn't getting regular playing time with United. During his appearances, he has displayed flashes that have caused a great number of United fans to wonder whether or not he should be given some game time.
On the other hand, he has a lot of opponents to contend with in front of him. On the wing, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Antony have all been playing ahead of him on a regular basis and appear to be the primary options available to the club right now.
But there is also the matter of Anthony Elanga to take into account. He has played a total of fewer than 300 minutes this season, including 80 minutes in the Europa League, and many fans anticipate that he will get some additional playing time against Omonia on Thursday night. In total, he has played for less than 300 minutes.
The upside is that Elanga is more effective on the left and Pellistri is naturally right-sided, meaning that both could play in the same team and share the pitch. Pellistri would also offer a different option to Antony.
Antony has scored all three of his goals so far this season by cutting inside onto his left foot and shooting the ball. This has been his strategy for all of his goals so far this season. Pellistri, on the other hand, likes to advance the ball all the way to the by-line, then get by his defender, and then cut it back into the box in order to create an opportunity.
Pellistri is a talented player who is getting to the point in his career where he needs to make a decision about what he wants to do with the rest of his life. It is possible that he will leave Manchester United if he is unable to secure regular playing time there; however, ten Hag may be on the verge of helping him realize his full potential with the club.
