With Aston Villa, Unai Emery hopes to play in European tournament and claim a title

The goal of Aston Villa's new manager, Unai Emery, is to break their trophy drought. After arriving from Villarreal, the former Arsenal coach hopes to bring Villa their first trophy in 26 years and return them to Europe.

After returning to the Premier League last week to take over for the fired Steven Gerrard, he assumes leadership for the first time facing Manchester United on Sunday.

While Villa hasn't won the title since their 1996 League Cup success, Emery has achieved the Europa League four times, including with Villarreal last year.

"Winning a trophy with Aston Villa is my goal," he declared. At first, it's a challenge I personally face. My secondary goal might be to join Aston Villa in Europe. Due to our poor positioning in the standings, we must now limit our thoughts to the upcoming game.

We want some time but we don't have as much of it in soccer, therefore I want to invent a new method.

"I intend to stay here for a while. They taught me the same mentality I have, to be motivated and to progress as quickly as possible, because they shared our objectives and aspirations.

"I'm glad to be doing it; we chose to be here since this is a fantastic endeavor and our goals will be shared. step-by-step, and I wish to contribute here by using my skills to aid."

With Villa 16th and one point above the relegation zone, Emery left Arsenal in 2019 when after 18 months at the Emirates. He has now returned to the premier League once more to explore himself.

I am currently 51 years old, and in my professional career, I have coached in Spain, France, and the Premier League, in addition to having played against numerous international teams. The English teams present a significant massive threat.

Christian Purslow, the chief executive, continued, "As a repeat trophy winner, that track record speaks for itself. We are pleased to have someone like this Aston Villa head coach who absolutely match up that description.

At such a pivotal point in our development, "We are happy to have a manager join us with such a track record."

Emery, who returned to the Premier League last week from Villarreal to take over for the fired Steven Gerrard, will be in charge for the first time against Manchester United on Sunday.

"On social media, some supporters have reacted by stating how much they admire Emery's mindset and ambition for winning a title and playing in Europe from the beginning.

"Some fans are merely concerned with the upcoming game and putting together a run of form, but others are delaying judgment for a year so he'll have a point to prove with them.

"That's what Emery emphasized during his opening press conference. Although there are long-term goals, the focus is on each individual game, beginning with Manchester United. The next few months will be difficult for Emery because Villa are only one point above the relegation zone.
