  • You must be a resident of the United Kingdom and any of the following ethnic groups: Black African, Black Caribbean, Black

  • Other, Mixed White and Black Caribbean, Mixed Black African, or another mixed background (to include Black African, Black Carribean or Black Other).

  • Required to have a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in a related field, both of which must have been earned from a respected academic institution.

  • It is required that you display good academic and research talents.

To apply for the James Mccune Smith PhD Scholarships at the University of Glasgow 2023, interested students must complete the processes described (below):

  1. Take a look at the research projects that faculty members at the University of Glasgow are working on so that you may make a recommendation for a research topic and a supervisor.
  2. Please submit an Expression of Interest form that has been completely filled out.
  3. Continue with the application procedure, starting with making contact with possible future supervisors. When you make first contact with a possible supervisor, make it a point to mention that you want to submit an application for a James McCune Smith Scholarship as one of the several financing sources you are considering. The candidate for a James McCune Smith Scholarship is responsible for determining the subject matter of their proposed study, in consultation with their possible advisor.
  4. Your personal statement must be submitted through the Scholarship Portal. In the personal statement, you should discuss your research interests and explain why you would like to be a James McCune Smith Scholar in no more than 500 words.
