Wonder Dynamics has released Wonder Studio, an AI-powered editing studio that, according to the company, enables users to effortlessly substitute real actors with convincing CGI characters. It demonstrates the increasing power of recent advances in generative AI such as GPT-4 and is part of a trend toward using AI for all aspects of the filmmaking process.

The founder of the Academy of Animated Art, Jasmine Katatikarn, stated in an email interview with Lifewire that artificial intelligence can expedite and reduce the cost of film production. The individuals working on movies are provided with a tool that helps them become more efficient and provides an outlet for idea generation.
AI-Generated CGI Instantaneously
Wonder Studio is a web-based AI platform that enables artists to effortlessly construct films with CGI characters. According to the company, you don't need complex 3D software or expensive production equipment; all a filmmaker requires is a camera.
Unlike previous methods, Wonder Studio does not require an actor to don a motion capture suit to control the performance of a computer-generated character in an industry-standard performance capture system. Instead, the AI analyzes the footage from a single camera and captures numerous elements, such as the performances of the performers, lighting, compositing, etc. The CG character is then mechanically animated, lit, and composed within the live-action scene.
"AI will revolutionize the creative process of a broad variety of professional creatives, making it more effective and efficient."
In a news release, Nikola Todorovic, the CEO of Wonder Dynamics, said, "We are just filmmakers who, like many other artists in our industry, lacked the budget for the type of sci-fi films we wanted to make, so we set out to create AI tools that eliminate enormous cost barriers." "The tools we've developed have improved collaboration and eliminated the black box that typically exists in generative AI, which limits control over the finest details of each shot."
Wonder Studio is only one of many movie applications that use artificial intelligence. For instance, the film editing software Descript is incorporating the newly released GPT-4 into its toolkit.

Visual effects (VFX) are essential to the film and television industries. AI technology can reduce the cost and time required for VFX production, according to Hector Ferran, vice president of marketing at BlueWillow, an AI I image generation company. VFX images can be generated rapidly and efficiently using AI image generation.
"The production of 'Avatar 2' is a great example of AI being utilized in this process," he added. The VFX for the film were generated using real-time rendering and AI, similar to the technology used by game studios during the development process.
The Prospects for AI in Film
Ferran predicted that AI would become more prevalent in the film industry in the future. He stated that increased production efficiency would enable VFX artists and producers to devote more time to the creative aspects of the final product and less time to raw production. "Artificial intelligence will revolutionize the creative process for a wide variety of professional creatives, making it more effective and efficient," he said.
Filmmaking is in the early phases of realizing the potential of generative AI, and the technology is only just beginning to be robust enough for the film industry. Gary Lee Koepke, co-founder of the AI production studio Seyhan Lee, stated in an email that the studio's name will be changed. His company has released the artificial intelligence film software Cubric. He added that image creation software such as Midjourney and Stable Diffusion have "barely scratched the surface" of what generative AI is capable of.
Still, the technology must be improved before it can be utilized in filmmaking.

"For instance, AI inpainting enables filmmakers to change a single element of a shot—if there's a tree in the background and you want to remove it, you'll need to fill that space with a consistent background," Koepke explained. "Cuebric allows you to conceive, ideate, previs, rotoscope, and edit in seconds to minutes, allowing a filmmaker's ideas to appear on camera in near real-time. This process used to take a special effects artist tens of hours to complete, but with generative AI tools such as Cuebric, creators and filmmakers can now concentrate on artistic expression rather than tedious repetition.
