Twistok.com has learned that a Federal High Court presided by Justice M N Yunusa has nullified the candidacy of Abia State Governor-elect Dr. Alex Otti and all Labour Party candidates in Abia State, Kano, and the remaining states in Nigeria for failing to comply with the provisions of the 2022 electoral act.

The Court in Suit No. FHC/KN/CS/107/2023, filed by Mr. Ibrahim Haruna Ibrahim against the Labour Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission, ruled that the process is invalid due to the Labour Party's failure to submit its membership register to the Independent National Electoral Commission within thirty days prior to their primaries.

"The party that has not complied with the provisions of the electoral act cannot be said to have a candidate in an election and cannot be declared the winner of an election," the judge ruled. "Therefore, the votes credited to the first defendant are null and void in accordance with the Supreme Court's decision."
Obiora Ifoh, acting National Publicity Secretary of the LP, issued the following statement: "The Labour Party has been informed of an illegal attempt by a breakaway group led by Lamidi Apapa to mislead a Kano state High court into invalidating all the elections won by the Labour Party in the recently concluded general election."

The party spokesman claimed that "the suspended National Legal Adviser and a key member of the disgraced Apapa group, Samuel Akingbade Oyelekan, on Wednesday while the Presidential Appeal Tribunal was sitting in Abuja with all eyes on it, clandestinely sneaked out of Abuja to Kano state where he in collaboration with some members of the other political parties asked the court to invalidate all the elections won by the Labour Party, particularly, the nationa"
He added that Akingbade, who presented himself as a Labour Party representative, did not oppose the motion, compelling the judge to postpone his decision until Thursday (yesterday).
Ifoh subsequently requested that the judiciary and all law enforcement agencies, including the police and the Department of State Services, DSS, note that Akingbade and Apapa's supporters no longer represented the party.
