Inibehe Effiong Responds to the Supreme Court's Dismissal of the PDP's Suit Against Shettima

The Supreme Court dismissed the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) lawsuit alleging Shettima's double nomination.

Human rights attorney Inibehe Effiong has responded to the dismissal of the petition seeking the disqualification of All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential and vice-presidential candidates Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima.

Shettima's nomination as Tinubu's running mate was allegedly in violation of Sections 29(1), 33, 35, and 84(1)(2) of the Electoral Act, 2022, according to the PDP.

The opposition party argued that Shettima's nomination to run for vice president and the Borno central senatorial seat simultaneously was illegal.
On Friday, however, a five-member tribunal of the supreme court ruled that the PDP lacked standing to file the lawsuit.

Friday via his official Twitter account, Effiong stated that the case's outcome was predictable and that the Supreme Court was correct in dismissing the PDP's appeal for lack of standing.

He wrote:

“I said three days ago the outcome was predictable and that the Supreme Court will decide the appeal against the PDP on ground of lack of locus standi. That is exactly what the apex court has done this morning.“
