As the cause of the loud explosion was not immediately determined, it initially caused concern among the local populace.

SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, stated in a statement released on Friday that the tanker developed a mechanical fault near the Gwagwa primary school.

She stated that "while efforts were being made to fix the problem, a spark caused an explosion that ignited the tanker"
The PPRO, however, stated that no lives were lost and that the situation was under control.

"Meanwhile, further investigation into the immediate and remote cause of the explosion has begun, and the public is urged to disregard any contrary narratives and go about their lawful duties without fear," the statement added.
