Tuesday, the Presidential Election Petition Court in Abuja acknowledged results sheets from seventeen states in Peter Obi's petition to overturn President Bola Tinubu's victory in the February 25 election.
Mr. Obi ran for the presidency of Nigeria under the banner of the Labour Party. He finished third in the competition, behind the People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar, who placed second. In a distinct lawsuit, Atiku challenges Mr. Tinubu's victory in the same manner.

INEC declared Mr. Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the victor of the February presidential election in Nigeria. S
But Mr. Obi accuses INEC and Mr. Tinubu of electoral fraud. During the election, he claimed, there were numerous violations of the constitution and electoral law.
Mr. Obi has presented masses of documentary evidence to the five-member court panel led by Haruna Tsammani to prove his case.
Mr. Obi's attorney, Ben Anichebe, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), presented certified true copies of results sheets from ward collation centres in 17 states of the federation at the resumption of the hearing on Tuesday.
Mr. Anichebe presented results documents from 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Adamawa State, eight LGAs of Bayelsa, 23 LGAs of Benue, 21 LGAs of Kogi State, 11 LGAs of Nasarawa State, 25 LGAs of Niger State, 18 LGAs of Ondo State, and 23 LGAs of Sokoto State.
The attorney also submitted electoral documents from 25 LGAs in Delta State, 11 LGAs in Ekiti State, 25 LGAs in Imo State, 21 LGAs in Kaduna State, 27 LGAs in Oyo State, 18 LGAs in Cross River State, 15 LGAs in Edo State, 32 LGAs in Akwa Ibom State, and 20 LGAs in Lagos State.
Mr. Anichebe stated that similar result papers from thirteen local government areas (LGAs) of Ebonyi State would be submitted on Wednesday, 7 June, despite the fact that the state was not included in the schedule of documents for the day.
However, the attorneys for the respondents, Steve Adeh for INEC, Mike Igbokwe for Tinubu, and Kashim Shettma and Professor Mamman Yusufari for the APC, all SANs, objected to the admissibility of the documents.

The attorneys vowed to detail their objections to the admissibility of the documents at a later date.
After acknowledging the documents as evidence, Mr. Obi's attorney, Mr. Anichebe, requested a postponement until Wednesday.
With the agreement of the respondents’ lawyers, the court adjourned further proceedings until Wednesday.
