Akpabio was proclaimed the election winner on Tuesday after defeating Senator Abdulaziz Yari. With 63 ballots, Akpabio defeated Yari, the former governor of Zamfara, who received 46 votes.
Ezekwesili questioned via her verified Twitter account whether Akpabio was, in fact, a candidate in the senatorial primaries.
She asserted that the Nigerian judiciary, not the citizens, installed Akpabio as a senator.
She wrote, “Was the newly selected President of @SenateNGR a Candidate in the Party Senatorial Primaries?
“The Nigerian Judiciary installed him a Senator and not the citizens through the proper democratic process.
“They think these egregious acts of political corruption will last? Na LIE✍?”

In the meantime, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno paid Godswill Akpabio a visit on Tuesday. Eno, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was among the dignitaries present at Akpabio's residence in Abuja for the reception ceremony honoring him.
Akpabio, senator for Akwa Ibom North-East, defeated Abdulaziz Yari, senator for Zamfara Central, by 63 to 46 votes to win the election for Senate President.

Eno, speaking at the reception, vowed to collaborate with Akpabio for the greater good of the people of Akwa Ibom, expressing confidence that their efforts will bear fruit.
He said: “We had a fruitful discussion on the future of our state and nation. Together, we are committed to working tirelessly for the progress and prosperity of Akwa Ibom. Exciting times lie ahead, and I am confident that our collaboration will yield great results.
“With what I have seen here today, party politics has been broken down.”

Akpabio, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), responded by thanking Eno for the visit and praising him for opening a new chapter in the state's governance through the visit.
The former minister of the Niger Delta advised the governor not to administer the state in the same manner as his predecessor, Udom Emmanuel.
Akpabio said: “Don’t behave like your mentor, Udom. Stay in your lane and don’t inherit anybody’s problem, and you need to humble yourself. ”
