Well, now ChatGPT is here to help make the resume building process a breeze.
How ChatGPT can facilitate your job application
You can use ChatGPT to generate ideas and bullet points for your role from inception, or to refine and optimize existing bullet points that may not be meeting your objectives. In addition to bullet points, it can help you answer queries about resume construction and best practices. Here is how to commence.
Note: If you have access to Bing Chat, it could also serve as a wonderful assistant for this process, as it has the same capabilities as ChatGPT but also has internet access.

1. Choose a resume template
ChatGPT will assist you with the entirety of the resume on the text, but you will first need to select a template. Google Docs, Microsoft Word, and Canva are examples of applications that include pre-made resume templates.
A simple Google search for resume templates will yield hundreds of editable templates that can be imported into your preferred program. I suggest selecting the option that best meets your requirements.
2. Sign into ChatGPT
You must then visit the ChatGPT homepage of OpenAI and enroll in or create an account. It is free to use, so the sign-up procedure is straightforward, requiring neither credit cards nor obscure data.

3. Add text
If you want ChatGPT to generate text from inception for your resume, all you have to do is ask.
Ask it explicitly whether you want it to generate your professional summary or a single bullet point. For instance, I posed the following question to ChatGPT: "Can you write a concise, professional resume summary for my role as a tech reporter?" As evidenced by the photograph, this occurred in an instant.
Although ChatGPT is more than capable of generating resume-ready content, you should modify the generated text so that it reflects your actual experience and appears less robotic. Employers want to know what makes you unique, but without your assistance, the chatbot will only have access to generalized questions about your role.
4. Utilize ChatGPT to modify your own text.
Whether you attempted to complete out the template yourself prior to using ChatGPT's assistance or you have an existing resume that you wish to improve, ChatGPT is an excellent resource for editing your text. You only need to copy and paste your own text and ask ChatGPT to improve it.
For instance, I posed the following question to ChatGPT: "Can you improve this resume bullet? I write about technology." As seen in the image, within seconds it generated a much more elaborate bullet point that incorporated a professional tone and made that straightforward sentence more complex. Once you have received your result, you can always instruct ChatGPT to modify it further using prompts such as "Make it shorter" or "Can you include [additional details]?"
