Army arrests a phony army corporal extorting Rivers residents.

The Nigeria Army in Port Harcourt detained Anambra native Desmond Okeh for impersonating a Lance Corporal.

On Tuesday, Lt.-Col. Ikedichi Iweha, Spokesman of Nigeria Army 6 Division, Port Harcourt, presented the phony soldier to newsmen.

He said the guy was caught after an intelligence information about the phony soldier at a new generation bank in the Government Reserve Area of the city.

“Desmond Okeh was arrested on July 6 at a new generation bank in number six military camouflage with a fake military ID.On his phony military ID, the suspect was a Lance Corporal in Army camouflage with the duty number 16N/75/2038.
He stated the alleged impersonator had a bogus pass booklet when he was arrested.
During interrogation, the phony soldier admitted to buying military camouflage from Kotuku Barracks in Kaduna and sewing it at a tailoring shop.
“Okeh bought the army boot from sellers outside Alaba International Market in Lagos and printed the false ID at a cybercafé at Control Roundabout in Imo state.
“It is astonishing that this same Okeh was detained on May 15, 2022, for impersonating and turned over to a sister security agency for prosecution.

“Unfortunately, the same suspect is still on the street harassing innocent civilians by parading himself to his victims as a soldier,” he continued.
Iweha warned the people about crooks posing as military officials to steal their money and property.

He warned that not everyone in military camouflage is a soldier.

Okeh stated his enthusiasm for the military drove him to fake the army after multiple failed efforts to join.

Since 2016, I've applied to join the Nigeria Army, but my academic results have prevented me.

“So, whenever I'm around my army-accepted friends, I get carried away and feel like I'm part of them.

“To feel like an officer, I bought camouflage material and sewed it,” he added.
