Rasmus Hojlund: Manchester United finalising £72m transfer deal for Atalanta striker

Rasmus Hojlund, a 20-year-old Danish striker, is on the verge of joining Manchester United in a £72m transfer from Atalanta.

United have reached an agreement with Serie A club Atalanta regarding the signing of striker Rasmus Hojlund; United expect the 20-year-old can play in preseason pending a medical and personal terms confirmation. The agreement for Hojlund is initially worth £64 million plus £8 million in add-ons.

Rasmus Hojlund is expected to arrive in the United Kingdom on Tuesday for a Manchester United medical. The Atalanta forward will then sign a five-year contract with a one-year extension option.

Hojlund's contract is worth an initial £64 million plus £8 million in performance-based add-ons. Atlantis entered negotiations seeking a guarantee of £77 million.

This week, a formal announcement of his signing may be forthcoming. United hopes to finalize the agreement in time for him to participate in one of the remaining preseason contests. This weekend, they will play Lens on Saturday and Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.

The forward's preferred destination is Old Trafford, so there was no cause for concern regarding PSG's interest in the Danish international.
The Premier League club received a boost on Saturday when Atalanta signed El Bilal Toure from Almeria, while Hojlund was omitted from the squad that faced Bournemouth in a preseason match.

United's incoming operations are now essentially complete, and any additional arrivals will likely depend on departures.

The likes of Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay, Fred, and Donny van de Beek are attracting interest. United is rumored to be prepared to enter the market to replace departing airlines if necessary. Sofyan Amrabat, a midfielder for Fiorentina, continues to elicit considerable interest.

Christian Eriksen, midfielder for Manchester United, discussed the impending entrance of Rasmus Hojlund following a preseason match against Borussia Dortmund.

"What's he like?

He's a strong number nine," Eriksen said.

"He's developed a lot in the last year from when I first saw him with the national team to a year's time, so, yeah, he's a very good player."

When Eriksen was informed that Hojlund had been overlooked by many until the recent transfer rumors, he responded:

"I suppose we don't get enough media attention in Denmark that's why, so people outside Denmark don't know enough.

"He's a nice guy, he's a good player. Like I said, he's developed, turning into just a nine, which he's played for the national team.

"I have to be honest I haven't seen that many games for Atalanta, but I know how they play and he fitted in well there, so, yeah, he's a good player."

Hojlund is a highly-rated young striker who has been in excellent form for Atalanta in recent seasons. He scored 16 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions last term, and has also been capped by Denmark at senior level.

The deal is a major coup for United, who have been looking to strengthen their attacking options this summer. Hojlund is a versatile forward who can play as a central striker or out wide, and he is expected to provide competition for Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford.

The £72m fee is a significant amount of money, but it is a reflection of Hojlund's potential. He is a young, talented striker with a lot of promise, and he could be a key player for United in the years to come.

Here are some of Hojlund's strengths:

  • He is a clinical finisher with a good eye for goal.
  • He is strong and athletic, and he is good in the air.
  • He is also a good dribbler and passer of the ball.

Hojlund will need to adapt to the demands of the Premier League, but he has all the attributes to be a success at United. He is a young, exciting player with a lot of potential, and he could be a key part of Erik ten Hag's plans for the future.
