Erick ten Hag will struggle to build a Man United team around any existing players, says former midfielder.

Manchester United are likely to name Ajax coach Erik ten Hag as their new permanent manager.

There have been numerous stories, including one from leading transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, which have stated that ten Hag will take over as interim manager from Ralf Rangnick in time for the start of the new season.

When the Dutch strategist finally arrives at Old Trafford, he will have a massive task ahead of him.

In terms of being a team worthy of competing for the sport's most prestigious titles, the Red Devils could not be further from the truth.

During their most recent trip on Tuesday night, they were humiliated 4-0 by arch-rivals Liverpool in the Premier League at Anfield, and if fans believed things couldn't get any worse before the game, they were regrettably proved to be incorrect.
A stunned Manchester United failed to land a single glove on their opponents, who dominated from the off with goals from Luis Diaz, Sadio Mane, and Mo Salah (who scored a pair).

Liverpool's Mo Salah (middle) scored twice against Man Utd on Tuesday.

Manchester United must bring in some fresh faces to ignite that little more enthusiasm and get the squad playing in a certain style that new manager Louis van Gaal wants them to play, according to former United midfielder Luke Chadwick, who spoke exclusively to CaughtOffside on the enormity of the task facing van Gaal.

Despite this, Chadwick is concerned that there is no current player worthy of establishing a new era on.

“Look at Bruno Fernandes or Scott McTominay who have done well. Anyone who isn't on Erik ten Hag's side can't really complain,” Chadwick remarked.

In fact, no one has shined this season, except perhaps David De Gea, who has had to perform due to the terrible play of the rest of the club. No one else has.”
