Scholes wants £160m. Man Utd duo dropped for Everton: "Pitch isn't big"

Iconic member of Manchester United Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford should start in the front three for Manchester United's match against Everton on Sunday, according to Paul Scholes, who thinks Cristiano Ronaldo should be joined by both of them.

On Saturday, Manchester United will travel to Everton, and Paul Scholes has urged Erik ten Hag to bench Jadon Sancho and Antony for the match.

The two United players were unable to make a significant contribution to Thursday night's Europa League victory over Nicosia Omonia, which ended in a 3-2 score. Both were taken off during the course of the game, with Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford coming off the bench to salvage some pride for Manchester United. Rashford scored twice after coming on, and Martial scored once as well.

On either side of Cristiano Ronaldo, who played all three quarters of the game in Cyprus, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford were outstanding. And despite the fact that the seasoned player was unable to find the back of the net, Scholes is of the opinion that the 37-year-old should continue to start against Everton at the expense of Sancho and Antony.

When asked if he could see Ronaldo keeping his starting position, Scholes expressed his desire to see the seasoned forward link up with Martial and Rashford in a new-look front three due to the compact pitch at Goodison Park. Rashford, Martial, and Ronaldo would make up the new-look front three.

He stated to BT Sport that "I can on Sunday, yeah. I believe that the impression that the two substitutes, Rashford and Martial, have made tonight with Cristiano is also significant. Everton might be one of the teams that Cristiano can play for, but there aren't that many games he'll be able to participate in overall. Since it is not an extremely large pitch, he will not be required to run all over the place while working the channels.

"I know Antony scored on Sunday [against Man City], but I think Martial and Rashford look more dangerous than the two wide lads that played today for him, which were Jadon Sancho and Antony. When he has two wide lads who have goals in them, I think he has a better chance of scoring goals. I believe that they have a little bit more about them, as they are able to go either way, they are quick, and defenders will be terrified of them.

"Cristiano, okay, he had a lot of chances tonight, but it didn't quite work for him, and it wasn't quite his night. However, that won't be the case for long with Cristiano because he has a lot of opportunities. If he gets chances, especially on Sunday, he will score. If he gets chances, he will score."

Erik ten Hag, in the opinion of Paul Scholes, should not continue to play Antony and Jadon Sancho.

Owen Hargreaves, another former Manchester United midfielder, agreed with Scholes and highlighted the promising link-up play between Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford. Rashford is currently playing for Manchester United.

He added: "Marcus and Cristiano had a fantastic understanding of how to work together. It's a really good run from Cristiano [for United's equalizer], and Marcus is really good with the ball when he's running with it. It's great to see them working together, and quite frequently we catch them both shooting the ball.

"Because of their ability to play on the flanks, I believe that they will be able to link up with Martial, Marcus, and Cristiano through the middle.

"It's nice to see Marcus being really positive because I think when he runs with the ball he's actually almost impossible to play against, he's quick, he's strong, and he's a good striker of the ball, and with Martial and Cristiano there are options there to be positive about," said the player. "It's nice to see Marcus being really positive because I think when he runs with the ball he's actually almost impossible to play against."
