Presidential Tribunal: "After May 29, Tinubu May Be Fired"

Atiku Abubakar's legal team has commented on President-elect Bola Tinubu's upcoming inauguration.

In a statement, Atiku's attorney Chris Uche SAN urged supporters of the PDP candidate not to lose sleep over the inauguration ceremony of President-elect Bola Tinubu, whose electoral victory is being challenged in court, on May 29.

“People are asking about May 29. We want to assure people that swearing-in (of Tinubu) is a ceremony that does not tie the hands of the court,” Uche said.

He added that a court can invalidate an electionregardless of whether a previously declared winner has taken office.

In the meantime, on Tuesday the court ordered petitioners to begin summoning witnesses beginning May 30.

The PEPT consolidated all petitions before it into a single document, having determined that they all contest the results of the 2023 election.

Uche was pleased with the consolidation of all petitions from the PDP, the Labour Party, and the Allied Peoples Movement, as well as the three weeks the court afforded them to present their case.

He stated that the court's decision is intended to expedite the case.

“We are very happy that pre-hearing session has been speedily concluded and we are going into proper hearing,” he said.

Attorneys for the Independent National Electoral Commission and Tinubu refused to communicate with the media after the Tribunalissued a new directive regarding the election petition.
