Stop ruling Abia as emperor – The PDP accuses Otti of pursuing misguided policies

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia State has evaluated the decisions made thus far by the administration led by Governor Alex Otti.

The party asserted that Otti's previous decisions reeked of hostility, vendetta, and missteps, whereas the governor should have extolled peace and reconciliation among all Abia residents.

This was stated by the Abia chapter of the PDP in a statement released on Friday by the State Vice Chairman and acting state publicity secretary of the party, Hon. Amah Abraham.

He claimed that the first few appointments made by the governor of Abia favored a specific region of the state.

"Making appointments that contradict our unity is, at best, divisive and would not foster the unity required to advance the state.

"His errors demonstrate his incompetence, lending credence to the argument we made during the campaign that there is a vast difference between running a small financial institution and a large public corporation like Abia state," the party added.

The party criticized Governor Otti for disbanding the task force on the collection of vehicle levies in Abia without first providing an alternative for those who make a livelihood in this sector.

It also deplored the fact that the state governor circumvented existing laws that established statutory bodies in Abia and dissolved them by executive fiat, describing the action as illegal, arbitrary, and offensive.

"As if that were not enough, he demanded that the chairmen of all the illegally dissolved boards pass over power to the board's most senior officers. However, in the case of the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), he contradicted himself by imposing a less senior officer. What kind of compulsion is that?" State PDP questioned.

The principal opposition party also criticized the state governor for the recent replacement of Professor Hagler Okorie with Mrs. Chidinma Martha Ndukwe as Rector of the state-owned Polytechnic in Aba.

It stated, in part, that "Hagler Okorie, a renowned professor of law, was just appointed and confirmed in March 2023 by the immediate past governor of Abia state, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, and we begin to wonder the reason for his removal because he has shown capacity as a good manager in the last few months of administering Abia Polytechnic."

The Abia PDP continued, "If what we believe, that he will not alter anything used by the former governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, is true, then we are concerned that Abians will be taken for a ride by an emperor and not a governor.

"The greatest thing Governor Alex Otti can do to advance Abia is to rid himself of his excessive and deeply rooted animosity toward the PDP and those who did not vote for him. On the day he was inaugurated as governor of Abia state, he became the patriarch of all Abians.

"We anticipate that he will implement the best principles of good governance and refrain from acting as an intolerant leader. Unfortunately, many people perceive him in this manner. Abia belongs to all of us, and every Abian deserves fair and equal treatment."
